The Loop is the gyre in the Gulf of Mexico that starts the Gulf Stream. One arm of the Horizon oil slick is being sucked into The Loop, and once there it will spread past the Florida keys, through the Florida Strait, up the east coast of Florida and on to Hatteras. Depending on how much more oil leaks out, it could go on to Europe, even get into the long, looping currents of the world ocean, which means around the Indian Ocean and into the Pacific. As the scientist on this video clip says, we should all pray for BP to spend every penny they’ve got to plug these leaks (without creating an even bigger leak).

Here is a link for those who want to know more about the potential of the Gulf Stream. Remember, when the Gulf Stream finally arrives in the cooler climes, cold water sinks; currents revive as a cold water current down from the Arctic, but oil does not sink: it continues to float.
