“The President points to a revolutionary new solar plant that will employ 1,000 people and power 140,000 homes. The plant is possible because of the President’s investments in the clean energy economy, which Congressional Republicans want to eliminate.”

Ok I seriously, and yes seriously, took a look at solar power.

To replace 100% of my electricity needs (heat coming from natural gas) it would take more roof then I have on my house.  Costs?  Even though I would enjoy a 30% federal tax credit, the bill would have been in the neighborhood of $80,000 (with tax credits) if I did have enough roof space to put it all.

For my $80K investment how much can I expect my property values to go up?  $30K.

Clean energy economy?  Well it is starting to sound unaffordable.  Maybe if we invest in nuclear power we can provide affordable energy to our citizens without contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.  I can’t afford solar and if I can’t afford it neither can the majority of our nation’s citizens.
