Deficit Commission Report: We Can’t Afford ANY of the Bush Tax Cuts

According to the Report of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, just released a few minutes ago, something that should have been clear 10 years ago has finally been stated outright: We can’t afford to extend any of the Bush tax cuts. None. Nada. Zip. Zero. Yes, we probably can afford to continue them for the middle class until we’re through the Great Recession, but other than that, forget about it. Why we’re even talking about extending the Bush tax cuts at all, let alone for people making $250,000 a year or more, shows a complete disconnect between the work of the deficit commission, the reality of the deficit and debt, and politics in Washington. Right now, frankly, the only difference between Republicans and Democrats on the deficit/debt is that Republicans are marginally more irresponsible than Democrats. That’s about it. Anyone for a third party?
