P.S. Also, can someone please explain to me why Arlington County Board member (and 31st district State Senate candidate, along with Jaime Areizaga-Soto) Barbara Favola keeps referring to herself as a member of the Arlington County Board of Supervisors (see 3:20 mark). As we all know, Arlington County doesn’t have a Board of Supervisors — that’s a different form of government, as they have in Fairfax County for instance. Yet, for some reason, Barbara Favola has been writing it and saying it for months now. It would be like if Del. Patrick Hope visited Connecticut, where they have a “House of Representatives” and not a “House of Delegates,” and called himself “Representative Hope” or whatever. Or maybe if Rep. Jim Moran went to Canada and said he’s a member of the U.S. Parliament? LOL. Also note that I called and emailed Favola’s campaign for comment. The only thing I got was a statement (“Yesterday, at that particular moment in Barbara’s speech, Barbara was discussing with Supervisor John Foust about the types of issues that local representatives deal with.”) that wasn’t on point and didn’t address my question.

Barbara Favola’s repeated, yet incorrect, references to the office she now holds (calling it the Board of Supervisors rather than the County Board) is troubling and calls for an authoritative explanation. I have read one or more comments elsewhere that try to excuse Barbara’s error by saying that Barbara was just trying to “reach out” to activists who live in areas of the 31st delegate district, such as the Fairfax County precincts, which are governed by a Board of Supervisors. But, that attempted rationale doesn’t hold up in this Dranesville appearance where Barbara is clearly referring to her own job not that of other “supervisors” in other areas. Anyone else have any insights on this?

Just watched it. It was one thing when this “mistake” was coming from her campaign, but now from her own mouth – that is inexcusable. And her explanation holds no water – she specifically said in her time on the Board of Supervisors. The voters are smart enough to understand we have different forms of government here in VA and changing your position to make it easier for them to relate is insulting to their intelligence and, worse, looks silly and fake.  To the extent that she is trying to sound “bigger than she is” as a Supervisor and not a County Board Member, that is a slap in the face to Arlington.
