We Stand With Planned Parenthood

Last night, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation announced it will stop funding Planned Parenthood’s lifesaving breast cancer screenings. Why? Because of political pressure from congressional conservatives and anti-choice extremists like those pushing personhood through Virginia’s General Assembly.

Planned Parenthood is often the only provider of health care services for low-income and underserved women. Komen’s support for Planned Parenthood has provided nearly 170,000 clinical breast exams and referrals for more than 6,400 mammograms in just the last 5 years. These cancer detection and prevention programs save lives, plain and simple.

Komen’s decision is an outrageous surrender to anti-choice extremists, like those in the Virginia legislature trying to pass personhood and defund Planned Parenthood. The far-right has relentlessly targeted anyone supporting women’s health programs, and it’s wrong.

Cancer isn’t pro-choice or pro-life. It’s shameful that a foundation supposedly dedicated to saving lives would bow to the far-right on a life and death issue like breast cancer screenings.

At this critical moment, we must stand with Planned Parenthood against these unconscionable attacks on women’s health. Sign our petition to the Komen Foundation calling on them to reject anti-choice extremists and resume funding Planned Parenthood!

    • The Komen Foundation’s decision regarding Planned Parenthood is deeply troubling. As an organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer, it’s hard to understand how eliminating funding that provides hundreds of thousands of women with preventive screenings is in anyone’s best interest.

I call on the Foundation to reverse their decision and not let politics interfere with protecting women’s health.

Time to go after American Airlines, Bank of America, Belk, Ford, Walgreens, Yoplait, 3M, Purina, Energizer, Hallmark, Lowes, Re/Max as a start. Email them, FB them, tweet them and demand they stop supporting a bigoted organization seeking to kill women based on hate ideology

Ask the supporters above one question “Do you accept the deaths of those who cannot afford private care?”

Do it now, not later, now.

In the couple of days since the Susan B. Komen Foundation announced they were not giving any more grants to Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood has announced they received more than $400,000 in new contributions. Since Koman gave them about $500,000, Planned Parenthood has almost made up that shortfall already.

of every aspect of American life continues apace, thanks to the Rovian Republican Party. Turning everything (including science and entertainment) into a question of political ideology is what we saw in Stalinist Soviet Russia, and it is reminiscient of how the Inquisition insisted that every aspect of life had a religious connotation, and only the Church could determine the dogma which set the rules for everything one did or thought. In other words, total totalitarian control.

So far, this politization has been proceding rather quietly, bit bit, so subtle few have noticed the gradual imposition of censorship and the social and political pressures which impose self-censorship. Now we have economic pressures added overtly with Koman’s decision.
