I’m serious, this is the whackjob who just endorsed George Allen:

In a tape…Coburn is heard warning the good clean citizens of Oklahoma of the great lesbian threat to their state.

On the tape, Coburn tells how a campaign worker form Coalgate, Okla., told him that lesbianism is “so rampant in some of the schools in southeast Oklahoma that they’ll only let one girl go to the bathroom.”

And you thought “macaca” was bad? Yeesh. But wait, there’s more from Tom Coburn –  much more!

*”As a congressman in 1997, Coburn protested NBC’s plan to air the R-rated Academy Award-winning Holocaust drama Schindler’s List during prime time.[65] Coburn stated that, in airing the movie without editing it for television, TV had been taken ‘to an all-time low, with full-frontal nudity, violence and profanity.'”

*”On May 23, 2007, Coburn threatened to block two bills honoring the 100th birthday of Rachel Carson. Coburn called Carson’s work ‘junk science,’ proclaiming that Silent Spring ‘was the catalyst in the deadly worldwide stigmatization against insecticides, especially DDT.'” (Note: Silent Spring is an American classic, one of the greatest books ever written about the environment, hailed by just about everybody…except crazy Tom Coburn that is.)

*”Coburn was previously blocking passage of the LRA Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act, which would help to disarm the Lord’s Resistance Army, a political group accused of human rights abuses.”

*Coburn “objects to legal abortion in cases of rape, and he has justified his position by noting that his great-grandmother was raped by a sheriff“(Source)

*Coburn charged, “The gay community has infiltrated the very centers of power in every area across this country, and they wield extreme power… That agenda is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today. Why do you think we see the rationalization for abortion and multiple sexual partners? That’s a gay agenda.” (Source)

*Coburn flirted with “birtherism,” supporting a bill which “requires any federal candidates’ campaign committee filing with the Federal Election Commission to produce a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate.”

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that Tom Coburn and “Felix Macacawitz” are two birds of a feather!

    • See here:

“During the Bush administration, they had four years where the Republicans controlled the House, the Senate and the executive branch. We had a great opportunity to do great reform to fix what was wrong with this country. We didn’t do it – that’s where careerism comes in,” Coburn told TheDC.

      […]

Coburn specifically criticized the Republican-controlled Congress and President George W. Bush for enacting Medicare Part D in 2003.

“We created no tax base to pay for it, right? No tax base to pay for it so we created a brand new entitlement program that has $12 trillion worth of unfunded liability. Did we really do that to help people with their drugs or did we do that to make that no longer a campaign issue for the 2004 presidential election?” Coburn said.

And yes, George Allen was a U.S. Senator for much of that period, during which time he voted 96% with George W. Bush on all of the stuff Coburn rips to shreds. So why the heck is Coburn endorsing Allen? It makes no sense, but then again, see the quotes above from Coburn – the guy’s nuttier than a Christmas fruit cake!

It should be noted that despite Coburn’s–ahem–controversial statements, that he is counted as a friend of President Obama’s and the two of them have a long history of working together.

Not that this in anyway implies that there’s a connection between Allen and Obama, but just to point out that Coburn’s history has not prevented Obama from associating with him.
