Obama: It’s Now Up to Republican-Controlled House to Prevent Middle Class Tax Increase in 2013

The Senate voted yesterday to extend the Bush tax cuts for another year, for the 98% of Americans making under $250k per year (and also for 97% of small businesses). The question is, will the Republican-controlled House of Representatives vote to allow taxes for all Americans to go up next year, holding 98% of the country hostage to the top 2%? Will the Republican-controlled House of Representatives vote to add uncertainty, which they love to complain about but never DO anything about, to the nation’s “jobs creators?” Or, will the Republican-controlled House of Representatives for ONCE do the right thing for America, not just to please their right-wing, Tea Party base? Personally, I’m not holding my breath on the latter, but I’m hoping a couple dozen sane Republicans, if they still exist in the House of Representatives, might join with Democrats and get the job done for a change. We’ll see soon enough…

Unfortunately, even though there are a few more than a couple dozen “sane” Republicans, apparently their desire to find favor with the crazies and their motivation to stay employed far outweigh their conscience when it comes to doing what’s right for the Country.

The one thing I will note, however, that I saw in your post, and I see in every paper and news magazine liberal, conservative or otherwise is the “98%” meme.

Why aren’t the Democrats pushing harder on the reality that what they just passed is a tax cut for 100% of Americans, but they are no longer extending the cuts for income over $200,000/$250,000? It sounds far better than 98%. They need to flip the story that the GOP is painting of the left “punishing” the rich, and instead tell the truth. EVERYONE maintains some tax cut, but the big boys is getting a little smaller…

Of course the GOP always has far-outplayed us in the spin game.
