ARLINGTON, VA., (April 27, 2014) – Arlington School Board Member Emma Violand-Sanchez today endorsed Nancy Van Doren for Arlington School Board, and called on Democrats to support Van Doren in her bid for the Democratic Party endorsement for an open School Board seat.

“Nancy is an advocate for every student in Arlington,” said Violand-Sanchez. “She will make sure the needs of all our students are being met, including those with disabilities and second language learners. I am sure this will help APS make progress in enhancing achievement for all students.”

Violand-Sanchez announced her endorsement at a standing-room-only event co-hosted by former School Board Member Frank Wilson, Angela Guzman, Alex Deucher, and 40 community leaders.

Frank Wilson also expressed his support for Van Doren.

“Nancy is the candidate with the demonstrated track record of championing the best interest of every child in Arlington,” said Wilson. “As a School Board member she will continue to work to strengthen the instructional program for all our students, and close the achievement gap.”

“Nancy is a person of action,” said Arlington community leader Angela Guzman. “She has served as a leader in major APS task forces for a decade. She has been a driving force on initiatives that have touched every aspect of a student’s daily life. We need her leadership on the School Board.”
