“Whether she’s supporting mandatory transvaginal ultra-sounds or comparing immigrants to FedEx packages, Barbara Comstock keeps proving that her right-wing agenda is totally out of touch with Northern Virginia’s values,” said David Bergstein of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “This kind of insulting and hyper-partisan rhetoric from Comstock represents exactly what Northern Virginians hate about this dysfunctional Republican Congress.”

BACKGROUND:

Comstock Opposed Comprehensive Immigration Reform. In April 2014, appearing on “The John Fredericks Show” radio show, Comstock was asked about immigration reform: “Because I do not like omnibus bills, whether it’s Obamacare, or huge transportation bills that people don’t read. When you do that you always end up with, the conservative end often gets the short end of the stick in these huge omnibus bills. So I think we’re better off doing step by step, kind of going for the base hits, things like making sure we secure the borders first.” [John Fredericks Show, 4/11/14]

  • “Barbara Comstock is once again putting her right-wing political agenda ahead of Northern Virginia’s values, and today she delivered a slap in the face to our immigrant community. Virginians deserve a representative who will speak for all of us – not push the sort of divisive and partisan politics that Comstock once again showed today. People are not packages, and Comstock should apologize for her wildly offensive remarks. “

  • Statement From Foust Campaign On Debate And  Barbara Comstock’s Offensive Comment Comparing Immigrants to FedEx Packages

FAIRFAX, Va. — Following today’s debate in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District and Comstock’s statement comparing immigrants to FedEx packages, Foust for Congress Campaign Manager Shaun Daniels issued the following statement:

“Today John Foust focused on bringing the same approach he practiced in Fairfax to Washington: balancing budgets, cutting wasteful spending and investing in vital services in order to help businesses create jobs.  But Barbara Comstock showed once again why her right-wing agenda is so out-of-touch with our values – even going so far as to compare immigrants to FedEx packages. Comstock’s comments today were disappointing, insulting, and an affront to Virginia’s immigrant community. The business community today saw a clear contrast between Foust’s proven record of bringing folks together to get results, and Comstock’s hyper-partisan political agenda which represents everything Virginians hate about Congress.”

  • From the Virginia House Dem Caucus:

Richmond- During a debate for the 10th Congressional District Delegate Barbara Comstock compared people to FedEx packages while answering a question about immigration.  A video can be found here: http://www.c-span.org/video/?c… After a reporter sent out the quote via Twitter Delegate David Ramadan another right-wing Delegate from Northern Virginia retweeted it to show agreement.

“Considering the significant demographic shifts and the increase in the number of immigrants and New Americans in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District and throughout the Commonwealth, these comments are incredibly insensitive,” said Delegate Alfonso Lopez.  “Delegate Comstock has shown that she lacks a fundamental understanding of our immigration system.  We need serious Members of Congress who will debate and support comprehensive immigration reform without relying on unthinking and dehumanizing statements.”

“Delegates Comstock and Ramadan have a long history of right-wing votes and rhetoric, but this takes the cake,” said Caucus Chair Scott Surovell. “I can’t believe Comstock would compare Latino children and adults to FedEx packages. This type of discourse does not deserve a place in our national debate on immigration reform.”

So, maybe this is Barbara Comstock’s idea to create jobs – creating barcodes to tattoo on immigrants.  Will they be colored differently depending on ethnicity?
