Virginia 8th CD Independent (formerly GOP) candidate Mike Webb responds to posting a screenshot of his computer with tabs showing porn sites open (see below). And no, I can’t understand what on earth he’s talking about.

SEE HOW DIRTY YOU ARE?”

That is a punchline from an old joke, and at least one female Republican in Fairfax County has heard me tell that, and it seems that this might be a good time to tell the story, again. But, maybe not, because we have done it, again, and like in the Bishop Sheen miracle story that I often relate I let the moment simmer until now we are just getting a small number of comments trickle in. Word to the wise, and you can confirm with Jack Blakely on this, I am a big fan of Lewis Carroll, and often say, unless your name is Alice, don’t ingest everything with a sign that says, “Eat me.”

So, if you want the story behind the story, feel free to read my reply to Scott Broadbeck of ARL Now, who, at least asked the question, before writing a story.

Hello, Scott!

If you received a previous version of this, please forgive me, because, we continue to have impacts to our campaign systems, and my record copy to you has mysteriously disappeared—another wonder in an interesting campaign.

I have courtesy copied Matthew Hurtt, Chairman Emeritus of the Young Republicans, because, unlike you, he decided to just go with the story and not ask for a comment. Duffy Taylor, aka Charles Hernick is also joined herein because this internet troll of anonymous claim is now purporting to be my consultant, advising me forever to cease and desist, from day one of the Hernick campaign, the very day that friends for Don Beyer magically stopped posting. Matt Wavro and Robert Kenyon are just the “usual suspects.”

So, first, to answer the important question: Yes, it is my present intent to run as an Independent for U.S. Congress, primarily because we do not currently have a conservative in this race—we have Donald Beyer, Jr. dipped in Republican coating. And, just like when I was pictured , subject to ridicule for reaching across party lines, on Facebook assisting the Libertarian Party in their recruitment of a candidate for this race in 2016, I don’t just say that I believe that people should have choices (“In 2016, it’s about choice; it’s about leadership; and it’s about time.), I really put actions behind my words. I am a little bit more than the “self-proclaimed activist” that Charles Hernick began to call me after he realized that activism was one of my strengths as a candidate. As you know, we have to get 1000 signatures in the next few weeks to get into the fight, and we are making great headway in this effort because people are very frustrated with our current politicians and their antics, as I probably should be, too. But, when we move closer to goal, expect an announcement regarding progress, in addition to reveals “interesting” encounters that we have had to date. Expect one shortly about a “fraud in the inducement scenario” for a new job delivered to me via this account and not my personal one, and in which the person insisted on reverting back to this address in correspondence on Google Apps.

Some have suggested that I was doing this impulsively or out of spite for the treatment that I received as a candidate for the nomination by Hernick and the local establishment leadership. Others have suggested that I was prompted to action because folks like Robert Kenyon and Fred D’Allaird and the present company, as well as pseudonym Internet trolls like Michael the Webb and Duffy Taylor, acting on behalf of the Hernick campaign continued in their vitriolic attacks against me, determined to “make . . . [me] famous, and not in a good way.” And, there are many who have suggested that pursuing an Independent bid for Congress will be sabotage the long shot chances that Hernick will prevail in November and end permanently my future in Republican politics. However, I assure you that none of that matters, at all, to me. Anyone who has ever been in a leadership position, and who acted as a leader, should knows that you can’t do that without getting some people angry with you.

Above and beyond all of that, there are disenfranchised conservatives in 2016, if only the almost one quarter of convention delegates at the GOP convention, some of whom have asked me “Where do we go from here?” Moreover, as Vernon Miles reported months ago, I have started a growing, grassroots conservative movement in a petri dish where it should not have grown or flourished, and now I am responsible for that life. It has to be nurtured and fed. It was my intent, during the nomination process, faced with hostilities that created uncertainties about outcomes for the nomination, primarily to self-finance my efforts because I did not want to let down friends and family if the outcome did not meet their expectations. What do you really need to spend for a campaign to 300 people in a room? My student body election at Washington and Lee to 1600 students cost just $25. But, now, months later, I have friends and family who have made a commitment, and a new family of hopeful conservatives, and, I have an obligation to them to press on. I am not a career politician, but an activist. That is the bottom line.

And, now, for the story that is on everyone’s mind today, with over 60 shares on some media, today, at last count, and most declaring that the candidate declared DOA on December 23, 2015 because he had 3000 videos, the highlight of the story debuting my campaign in the introduction blurb, was definitely toast, today. The darnedest thing about even wannabe Rangers is that under former Soviet doctrine, it was SOP to decimate a grid square measuring one square kilometer if just one Ranger was suspected of operating in the area of operations and to HOPE that he was dead. And, perhaps, like the commentary on the hopes for the GOP in November in Mark Kelly’s column, perhaps, even here, only “time will tell.”

Now, the Matt Hurtts, Robert Kenyons, Josh Hills, etc. of the world will always prefer their own version of the truth, but, like George Will says, they will always do that. We have not gained any new enemies or lost any friends, today. But, “TIME” is an important factor in the story behind this story. “Patience and time” are the watch words of General Kutuzov, as you recall, from when you read War and Peace.

Time? December 23, 2015. An article declares DOA a GOP “Koons” challenger highlighting his 3000 piece video collection with a brief reference to a service in the military. Throngs 50 strong arrive on an online thread concerned, not about the string of videos the incumbent produced at their expense, including one about his favorite actress Sandra Bullock, but about mine, compiled at minimal personal expense, but with the big question: “What kind of videos?

Time? The newspaper that speculated about my ability to pay a $3500 filing fee, while commenters in online thread speculated about my gambling debts because no one could possibly win $2 on a $20 ticket on the day when the Powerball broke records, speculation about my mental stability because no one could have so many celebrity friends, speculation about my military service record because no one could have been that good and not have served in combat and no one could have lived a life that sounds like a movie, and speculation about so many other things, publishes a story, denying previous censorship of comments, but also casting suspicion about a cyber-attack excuse for a delayed FEC filing. But, when no local media newspaper would cover the verification obtained from the Geek Squad, which one commenter advised not to waste their time, I posted that information on social media, which apparently triggered the suggestion, again, of pornography, which Duffy Taylor seized upon. So, the pregnant thought was out there, and confirmed again in a conversation yesterday with Scott Stewart, a “friend of Don Beyer,” now returned. But, as Matt Hurtt will tell you, when I was in RIP, my RI used to say, if you need bait for a fishing trip, the best way to get worms is to stomp on the ground because the worms will come up to the surface fearing that it is raining and that they will drown. And, this latest iteration in a reveal surfaced some more worms, but that does not get to how we got the idea to post the “story.”

Curious by nature, I wanted to test the suggestion that somehow, lurking out in the pornographic world there is some evil operator waiting for the one in a gazillion chance that a candidate for federal office would go to that particular website and thereby be infected with a virus that would cause his or her FEC data file to crash the FECfile application each time that it was loaded on the day of the filing deadline, as well as impact other critical campaign systems. Well, the Geek Squad techs testified to me, after servicing thousands of computers at the Baileys Crossroads location that they had never seen any computer using their signature virus protection for the time period to acquire over 4800 viruses, 300 of which would require re-installation of the operating system. We are currently awaiting their attempt at recovery of files on that machine accidentally deleted when they failed to backup files before re-installation, a scenario about which Matthew Wavro speculated openly to me before we were informed by the Geek Squad that that had indeed occurred. Generally, the circumstances in which I have been involved in a life with over 30 years of leadership, I cannot just shoot from the hip, like reporters in this town who could not even get my campaign history straight, an incumbent who believed that 7000 Americans died because of global climate change, a nomination rival who assumed that a “conservative surge” was just going to magically appear in November like it did on Super Tuesday, had they not been Dump Trump Democrats in fact, or who now is being called silly by the incumbent for not doing his homework on Metro. I don’t just like being right wing, I also like being right.

But, now let me tell you the results of my empirical inquiry that introduced me to Layla and Ivone. Around Powerball lottery time, January 9, 2016, I calculated the odds that my friend Rev. Howard John Wesley and I working independently arrived at the same prayer plan, and I was able to determine that there was about a one in a billion chance that that could have occurred in the way that it did. (https://www.facebook.com/search/top/…). Well, as much as folks like Duffy Taylor want to hope that the Devil is waiting for Christian candidates on a particular pornographic website to infect his or her FEC data file is even more improbable than my Paul and Silas story, and I know that Duffy Taylor is not a man of faith belief; so, I don’t know how he empirically arrives at his conclusion. I couldn’t see the probability or possibility without a RAND computer.

But, that is the news that will never be printed, but no matter. We found a few more “silent majority” worms today, but we also picked up a few more of the faithful. So, not a bad day, at all.

Thanks, and God bless you. Rangers lead the way!

Leadership Makes the Real Difference.

  • Quizzical

I can’t tell what he is saying or trying to imply either. Doesn’t even matter. One thing is clear though. He is reckless with computer security.

  • More from Mike Webb…still not exactly sure what he’s getting at.

I must have recited or heard that verse a million times in invocations in my youth, alone, in that Psalmist’s praise to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. But, until, today, I never really knew the power of what that meant. Today’s notorious post reached almost 200,000 people. The succeeding post reached a little more than a tenth of that, and all through the viral infection of social media and word of mouth. And, I certainly received my share of “interesting” comments, but no more out of the ordinary than what I have received since beginning this quest. But, the truly amazing thing about today was that “I saw also the Lord, high and lifted up,” and I was very much moved by the love and support of those who expressed their encouragement and support, even some in the national and local press.

Lessons affirmed today include that we do expect our leaders to be examples of our highest ideals, but also, as we have seen for almost a year in non-traditional length posts, people are interested and motivated by truth and substance, not flash or even scandal. In the month preceding the nomination convention, our following on Twitter grew at a rate of 50%, but today, in just one day on Facebook, we grew in page likes by 25%. Perhaps, what does not kill you does make you stronger. And, that quote that has remained with me since the very beginning of this quest tells me that I have much work ahead to fulfill the faith placed in me: “My trust is in the mercy and wisdom of a kind Providence that ordereth all things for our good.”

In 2016, it’s about choice; it’s about leadership; and it’s about time. I am Mike Webb, and I am running for U.S. Congress. Honest.
