  • HFA Statement on Donald Trump’s Press Conference

After Donald Trump’s press conference today, Hillary for America Campaign Manager Robby Mook released the following statement:

“Trump’s actions today were disgraceful. After five years of pushing a racist conspiracy theory into the mainstream, it was appalling to watch Trump appoint himself the judge of whether the President of the United States is American. This sickening display shows more than ever why Donald Trump is totally unfit be president.”

  • From Robert Reich:

“Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it. I finished it, you know what I mean,” Trump said this morning. “President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period.

So now Trump is admitting … what? He’s incapable of admitting he was wrong about anything, so he’s blaming Hillary for starting the “birther controversy.” Yet there’s not a shred of evidence she started it.

For years, Trump stirred up questions over whether Obama was American. Before “the wall,” the “birther” controversy was Trump’s ticket into the world of paranoid-conspiracy celebrity. The charge was based on nothing but thinly-veiled racism.

That this man is now running even with Hillary Clinton is mind-boggling.

  • WakeUp

AH, these results are interesting. We – in the Fifth Congressional District – are trying hard to elect an excellent candidate – Jane Dittmar – to Congress from an open seat. Ms Dittmar FOCUSES well on ‘good paying jobs’ as her REASON to be elected. WHILE – sadly and dangerously in our view – Ms Clinton FOCUSES on ‘better than Trump’. THAT is NOT an adequate reason for her election: it is not a plan for her Presidency – e.g. ‘In my first 60 days I plan to be better the Trump’ and looking back at mid-term ‘I have been better than Trump’. We are astonished that among the ridiculous elites of the Charlottesville and other elitist citadels of the Fifth that ‘better than Trump’ seems to be all that the care about. ‘Liberal’ elites – including ‘Bernie’ elites – are poorly, and dangerously, OUT OF TOUCH with realities of those living around them, in rural places, in the Southside. In fact, when I ask how many Charlottesville people have even been to Danville … few have … and when I ask UVA people if they can locate UVA-Wise on the map – despite the fact that UVA has a lovely, excellent units in Wise County – they can’t. SHAME on so-called ‘liberals’ and ‘progressive’ or ‘Bernie Bros’ etc … and more than shame, this is very dangerous for Democratic Party.

  • Quizzical

I caught part of a Trump speech today (9/17) about immigration, and it turned to be a Willie Horton play. I.e., blaming Clinton for criminal acts of undocumented workers who had been released instead of deported. How is the Secretary of State responsible for domestic law enforcement, you may wonder. The reasoning is the the home countries of the detainees sometimes refuse to take their own people back, because the detainee is so evil. Thus, the speech goes, it is Clintons fault for not suspending all visas to that country until they agreed to take their detained citizens back. Oddly Trump failed to identify the country involved.

The chain of causation is tenuous, and imagine how travelers and businesses would screech if visas were suddenly suspended.

Trouble is the Willie Horton play worked against Dukakis. So it worries me.

    • Yeah, it’s amazing that he can continuously spew out falsehoods, total illogic, bigotry, lunacy, conspiracy theories, etc., and he isn’t just sent packing to a mental institution or whatever, but is actually SUPPORTED by 40% or whatever of Americans. So that’s where we are in this country: Idiocracy, or something very close to it. Ugh.
