Excellent; Aneesh Chopra rocks (as does Tom Perriello)! More to the point, they’re both on the cutting edge of understanding the types of things we need to be doing in order to create an economy that works for everyone in the high-tech, automated, consolidated, globalized 21st century. As Aneesh Chopra explains (see press release from Perriello campaign below): “Tom Perriello gets it. His bold ideas for how to improve the lives of Virginians, while bringing the next generation of solutions to bear in state government, are exactly what we need in this moment.” Exactly — go Tom!

Today, Aneesh Chopra, Todd Park and Megan Smith — all three former U.S. Chief Technology Officers — are formally endorsing Tom Perriello for Governor of Virginia, citing his commitment to harnessing data and technology to improve the lives of Virginians. Chopra, also a former candidate for Virginia lieutenant governor in 2013, had previously contributed to Ralph Northam. As the digital economy changes Americans’ daily lives, Tom believes local and federal governments must confront the challenges it poses head-on while modernizing to deliver services to citizens with the most cutting-edge practices. It’s why he has challenged the tech community in Virginia to help the Commonwealth reach 100 percent voter participation, proposed raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and called for two years free community college, vocational training or apprenticeship to prepare the Virginia workforce for the jobs of the future.

“Tom Perriello gets it,” said Aneesh Chopra. “His bold ideas for how to improve the lives of Virginians, while bringing the next generation of solutions to bear in state government, are exactly what we need in this moment. As President Trump threatens to move us backwards, Tom can ensure that Virginia offers the clear alternative: a big, inclusive vision of solutions that help working families get ahead. Tom also offers the best chance to win in November, by energizing a broad coalition of Virginians to mobilize for a brighter future.”

“In Virginia and across the country it’s important to get behind candidates like Tom Perriello who plan to modernize government – to dramatically improve service quality, significantly lower cost, and use much more modern innovative and collaborative approaches that are in widespread use in other sectors for solving long standing challenges.” said Megan Smith and Todd Park

“Consolidation and automation are driving a changing economic landscape in the Commonwealth and across the world,” said Tom Perriello. “We need to make sure we harness technology for the common good — to improve health outcomes, engage citizens in the franchise, reduce costs, support entrepreneurs, and create jobs and opportunity. I am proud to have the support of these innovators. I have a simple message for engineers, data scientists, designers and technologists: come join us and together we can strengthen our economy, our democracy, and the quality of life for millions of Virginians.”

Aneesh lost to Ralph 4 years ago and endorses Ralph’s opponent this year.

    Sore loser much, Aneesh?

that’s one (perhaps not so nice) way of looking at it; I donated $1,000 to the Lt. Gov, introduced him to my donors and respect him as do pretty much all of us in the party.

However, I’ve known Tom and worked with him more directly on a range of issues dating back to my time in the White House, including his vigorous engagement in ensuring Southside had the resources the community deserved to invest in next generation broadband; and later, under his service with Secretary Kerry, led the effort on our quadrennial development review which embraced wholly a vision of a more open, transparent, and innovative government – precisely what led all three U.S. CTOs to endorse Tom for what he will do as Governor.

Our respective candidates have been respectful throughout this campaign. Perhaps we might follow in their footsteps and respect our differences, and pledge to unite June 14th?
