Gov. Terry McAuliffe to white supremacists and neo-Nazis: “Go home! You’re not wanted in this great Commonwealth. Shame on you. You pretend that you’re patriots, but you’re anything but a patriot…You came here today to hurt people, and you DID hurt people…My message is clear, we are stronger than you…You will not succeed. There is no place for you here, there is no place for you in America…I remind you all that we are a nation of immigrants…So please, go home and never come back; take your hatred and take your bigotry…I spoke to the president this afternoon…and I told the president that there’s got to be a movement in this country to bring people together…Stop the hate speech, stop the rhetoric in this country, we have got to bring people together.”

Mayor Mike Signer on white supremacists: “This tide of hatred and of intolerance and of bigotry that has…marched down with torches to the lawn of one of the founders of democracy, it is brought here by outsiders and it’s brought here by people who belong in the trash heap of history with these ideas…”

  • Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) issued this statement following the horror in Charlottesville:

“I’m saddened and disgusted by the pictures I have seen out of Charlottesville today. This is not the Virginia or Virginians I know and love. In the Virginia I know, we recognize the value of diversity, the strength of sticking together and that love breeds love.

“My heart is broken at the loss of life, the injuries and the fear that has been shown this weekend. I commend those who stood against these Klansmen and Nazis. These people will not win. The bigotry, hate, and anti-Semitism they peddle has no place here and no place in our great nation. All good people flinch at the horror we have seen unfold this weekend.

“Together, we will stand against them. Together, we will speak out. Together, we will push back. Together, we will resist hatred in any form. Together, we will win.”

  • Danica Roem: “Get that neo-Nazi white supremacy BS out of our commonwealth and damn them for bringing their hate here in the first place.”

  • Governor and First Lady McAuliffe Statement on Fallen Virginia State Police

RICHMOND – Governor Terry McAuliffe and First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe released the following statement on the deaths of Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen and Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates, both of the Virginia State Police:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jay and Berke, both of whom were our close friends and trusted members of our team. Jay has flown us across the commonwealth for more than three and a half years. Berke was devoted to our entire family as part of our Executive Protective Unit team for the past three years.

“This is a devastating loss for their families, the Virginia State Police, and the entire commonwealth. Our hearts go out to their wives and children, and we stand by to support them during this difficult time. These heroes were a part of our family and we are simply heartbroken.”
