Innnnteresting on at least a few levels. First, I find it fascinating that 16 Virginia House of Delegates candidates – all Democrats, of course – have signed on to supporting single-payer health care in Virginia. Second, I would note that other than Lee Carter, none of these candidates are in one of the 17 districts won by Hillary Clinton last November. Third, of course, the VA GOP immediately attacked this, calling it “an October surprise in a good way for us” and claiming (predictably) that “I don’t think anybody in Virginia supports putting the government in charge of our healthcare.” Your thoughts? Is this smart policy? smart politics? both? neither?

We will just have to wait and see if this was a good or bad move. I would mention that a majority of the candidates that signed on to this have a slim to no chance of winning in November at this point. So if they see an uptick you could attribute it to this move, where if they loose you could not necessarily point to this since the deck is so stacked against them. That being said Single Payer is not very popular among Trump voters, and a majority of the candidates that signed on to this are running in districts Trump won.
