Our own Teddy Goodson accepts the Fred Silverthorne Community Service Award from State Senator Chap Petersen at this morning's 11th Congressional District Awards Luncheon in Fairfax City, then has a few words on the grassroots. Congratulations to Teddy on a well-deserved honor!

Congratulations to Teddy! What a wonderful moment during this afternoon's award program! Well said, Teddy!

Its great to be able to put a face to your writings, too.

I didn't become a Democrat (0.00 / 0)
because I like stuffing envelopes or phone banking. In 2004 I left the Republicans and became a Democrat because of ideas and values---- I despised what the Republican Party was becoming, and felt the Democrats generally had better ideas and values.

As it happens, though, I also have found that elected Democrats do not always honor those ideas and values once they are in office and engaging in the give-and-take of politics, nor do they always listen to the ideas from their "base," (which tends to cling to those Democratic values and ideas).  We, the so-called base, or grassroots, is too often taken for granted by our Establishment leaders... it is like an abused spouse relationship.  Time for that to change, folks.

Republican Non-Sense (0.00 / 0)
I'm not sure how anyone can call themselves a "Republican" anymore with any amount of pride. As a party they've largely won by exploiting fear and divisive politics. The "southern strategy"  that Richard Nixon (and Karl Rove) pioneered to success... All for the sake of power.

Present day Republicans are most threaten by libertarians who actually have an ideology beyond just being "well connected" and consequently "well off".

I will say that Jim Webb has largely done exactly what he said he would do. Regrettably he's chosen to move on to the next chapter in his life story. But the grassroots ... the netroots is stronger then ever before because of people like Teddy, blogs like Blue Virginia and the knowledge that their voices can be heard ... if not always heeded.

Nicely done, Teddy! (0.00 / 0)

Congrats Teddy...you can also check out photos... (0.00 / 0)
Thank you (4.00 / 3)
What I wanted to get across, and did not completely say the way I wanted to, was that the successful organization is successful because it is blessed with a strong grassroots---- and that sometimes the established leaders don't always apprciate that, and don't always listen to their grassroots, which feels it's sort of invisible---- but that this year, 2011, is looking like the year the grass roots rises, and makes itself heard, the world grassroots, all across the globe. We have a lot in common with the grassroots of Egypt, Tunisia, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana.  We're fed up and ready to roll.

Rock-n-roll Teddy (0.00 / 0)
Its what you do!

Congratulations, Teddy! (0.00 / 0)
You rock!
