The Stench
Find out how Ken Cuccinelli's not just a tinfoil-hat, John Birch Society-style, extremist wackjob, he's also corrupt, in the The Continuing Chronicle of Ken Cuccinelli's Corruption. It really stinks!

Virginia News Headlines: Wednesday Morning

by: lowkell

Wed Oct 03, 2012 at 06:58:34 AM EDT

Here are a few Virginia (and national) news headlines for Wednesday, October 3.

*The Zinger candidate ("From Romney, it's sugary platitudes, not protein")
*The '99 percent' debate ("Questions that actually concern Americans.")
*Romney under pressure to score debate win against Obama
*First debate may be Romney's last chance to overtake Obama
*Judge blocks Pa. voter ID law
*Poll: Obama opens up 8-point lead in swing-state Virginia (It would be great if this were true, but I simply don't trust Roanoke College's polling. If you look at the "internals" of its previous Virginia polls and this one, they're basically all over the place, for no apparent reason. I'm amazed so many media outlets pick up this poll's results, whether it shows Republicans or Democrats leading.)
*NBC/WSJ poll: Obama holds lead in Ohio; statistical tie in Va., Fla. (Hmmmmm...is the post-convention "bounce" fading a bit in Virginia?)
*Ryan lands in Charlottesville, to begin debate prep (Are they going to coach him on how to lie effectively or what?)
*Kaine buys another $3 million in ad space for Va. Senate race
*Allen says state must pay more for Dulles Rail (And that money's going to come from...???)
*Environmentalists critical of McDonnell energy confab (And rightly so, this thing is a dirty energy bought-and-paid-for charade.)
*Fairfax works to minimize potential voting chaos ("Nearly one-third of active voters in Fairfax County - Virginia's most populous jurisdiction and a crucial battleground in the Old Dominion - might not be able to vote or could end up going to the wrong polling place on Election Day, according to the county's Office of Elections")
*Schapiro: If you can't beat Cantor, then beat him up ("Wayne Powell's campaign against Republican Eric Cantor isn't about beating the second most-powerful member of the U.S. House of Representatives.")
*Powell says Cantor is the problem; Cantor says Powell isn't the solution
*Virginia pro-gun group targets Cantor (This has got to be a joke, right?)
*McWaters says 'no' to governor run, undecided on LG
*Bolling shifts into '13 campaign mode online (Shift all he wants, Crazy Kookinelli's going to kick his butt among the Teapublican activists.)

lowkell :: Virginia News Headlines: Wednesday Morning
*Virginia GOP reaches 3.5 million voters, Dems dubious
*Churches try to get voters out
*Aging Hampton Roads bridges outpace repair efforts ("It would take an estimated $8 billion to sustain Hampton Roads' bridges through 2040, a study finds. Federal, state and local funding pays for bridges, as well as tolls and private investment")
*Environmentalists aim to stop Navy's 'target practice'
*Tysons tax hike will hit property owners, developers
*Loudoun board to vote on whether to investigate Delgaudio
*Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority board will grow to 17
*Rabies in NoVa: Is it on the rise? Must kids and pets stay inside at all times? ("Experts say no. But it sure seems like a lot of rabies out here.")
*At uranium forum, a lively discussion
*State progresses on converting fleet to alternative fuels (How about let's convert the fleet to electricity, powered by solar and wind?)
*Baseball delirium returns to Washington
*Nationals beat Phillies with backups; win in finale would ensure top NL seed
*Record rainfall drenches Washington region
