Here are a few Virginia (and national) news headlines, political and otherwise, for Tuesday, October 9.
*Wash, rinse, revise ("Romney scrubs away his old foreign policy.")
*Round of polls
shows tight race
after Obama-Romney debate (This election could be a nail biter, make sure you do whatever you can over the next 27 days to elect President Obama!)
*Republican Senator, Vietnam Veteran Endorses President Obama ("Let's be clear, Romney and Ryan would be disastrous for America's service members, veterans and military families.")
*In Virginia, Mitt Romney calls for change of course in Middle East ("Much of Romney's address focused on the complex threat posed by Iran, but he did not propose specific solutions that differ from the Obama administration's current policy of tightening sanctions and insisting that an Iranian nuclear bomb is intolerable")
*No letup in Allen-Kaine TV ad wars
*Allen, Kaine attack in debate; charges begin at outset
*George Allen struggles on abortion questions ("When asked about proposals in the GOP-led General Assembly's this year to require an ultrasound before women could get an abortion and to codify that life begins at conception - so-called 'personhood' legislation - Allen punted and pivoted."
*Allen, Kaine take off gloves in Va. Senate debate
*Election edict tests Fairfax
*Romney addresses rain-soaked crowd in Newport News (The Tour de Lies continues...)
*Our endorsements in Northern Virginia's congressional races (As always, the Post endorses its favorite non-"moderate" Republican, Frank Wolf, who has voted in lockstep with the far-right-wingnut Teapublican House leadership for several years now, and is not even a shadow of the old "moderate" Frank Wolf people came to like three decades ago. As for the Post's endorsement of Jim Moran, with "endorsements" like that, who needs enemies? Finally, the Post endorsed Gerry Connolly over the underfunded, no-chance-in-heck Chris Perkins.)
*Perriello Helps to Rally Douglass Supporters in Albemarle
*Independents decry exclusion from debate ("Though they won't be the only names on the ballot in November, Rep. Robert Hurt and Democratic challenger John Douglass will be the only congressional candidates on stage this week during the first debate.")
*Allen, Cantor draw crowd, protest in Henrico County
*McDonnell stumps for Romney in Virginia, Wisconsin
*Mitt and Ann Romney, Michelle Obama stump in Va.
*Out of one pocket and into the other ("The state has repeatedly refused to provide enough money for teachers' pensions and has continued to neglect money for roads and other state obligations.")
*Cards blast past Nats in Game 2(Also see *Orioles beat Yankees 3-2 to even ALDS at 1-all |
