Warner has been a lost cause for some time. Now Kaine and McAuliffe, good grief! I have news for both of them, if they think this move will push moderate Virginians into their corner, they're probably mistaken. A 'moderate' Virginian is still a conservative, to my mind, and therefore already prone to distrust whatever political decisions are made by Democratic politicians. Oh yea, and thanks for turning your backs once again on those who have been your foot soldiers and most ardent supporters!

"Had the pleasure of meeting Sarah Brady from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence last night at the Fairfax City Democratic Committee's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. Her courage is an inspiration. We must come together behind common sense solutions to help prevent gun violence."

Another reason to disavow the Catholic Church

I was raised Catholic, went to Carholic school for 12 years, even got married in the church because I knew it would be importantl to my mother. Every time I read one of these offensive statements by a Catholic bishop , priest, and even the Pope, it reinforces my decision to leave the Church. This is especially rich coming from an organization which enabled and covered up for pedphlies within their ranks for hundreds of years.
The only time I enter a Catholic Church is when I attend family weddings, funerals, or christenings. I have raised my kids with only the basic teachings of Jesus Christ, and told them they can choose their own religion when and if they decide to, or feel free to practice no religion at all.

Disappointed

Bishop Loverde's statement is disappointing, if not entirely surprising and, like Del. Hope, I hope on further reflection he reaffirms the Church's support of BSA Troops and Packs.
I am Cub Scout leader, with one son in Cub Scouts and another in Boy Scouts, and I believe the BSA position on sexual orientation is really (and unnecessarily) hurting a terrific organization, particularly in areas like Arlington. I think the new policy is a step in the right direction, and I am hopeful that it is simply the first step towards removing sexual orientation from the criteria for membership in BSA.
That having been said, I think that in the short run BSA is in a very difficult position, since no matter what they decide to do, they will offend large numbers of their members, and potentially drive them out of the organization. I do not envy those in charge of making these decisions for BSA.
