Rob Krupicka Announces for David Englin's House of Delegates Seat

by: lowkell

Well, that sure didn't take long!
Less than a day after the announcement [by Del. David Englin that he would vacate his seat], City Councilman Rob Krupicka (D) confirmed he intended to run for the open seat. Krupicka ran for the Virginia Senate last year but lost the Democratic nomination to fellow Del Ray resident state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-30).

"I've been pretty clear that I'm pretty interested in the policies and politics that are happening in Richmond and this is the chance for me to continue the work I started with the senate campaign," Krupicka, also a member of the state Board of Education, said.

Good for Rob, I think he'd make a great Delegate (he also would have made an excellent State Senator, but I could never decide between Adam Ebbin, Libby Garvey and him) and will be happy to support him for this position. Go Rob!

P.S. Here's my interview with Rob when he was running for State Senate last year.

Wait a minute (4.00 / 1)
I thought he was never running for office again?  "Krupicka's council seat is one of two open at City Hall, fulfilling a campaign pledge to break from politics if not elected to the state Senate."

The only promise he ever made specifically was to not run for City Council again which he made good on. It did sound as if he was going to take a longer break than he did but lets be honest, who saw this opportunity coming? Rob always had interest in getting back into politics at some point it just came faster than he thought it would.

Agreed (0.00 / 0)
Englin would have had that seat for decades if he had been able to keep it together.  This is very much like when Kris Amundson stepped down a few years ago.  Very unexpected, but has led to a great Delegate in Scott Surovell.

I think Rob would be great in the House, and this seat should be his to lose.

Really? (0.00 / 0)
We read his statements very differently.  "This could be the very room where my political life ends," "This is my last race for a very long time," "I am being very sincere when I say this could be my last political speech."  None of those statements is limited to a run for Council.

but.. (0.00 / 0)
Two of those statements include the words "could be" and one simply made it seem like he was taking a longer break. Like I said, nobody saw this opportunity coming for him. I think you and I both know we would take an opportunity as great as this one.

Good Shot (3.00 / 1)
My back of the envelope calculations have Krupicka getting 40% of the vote in the 45th Delegates district in the primary against Garvey and Ebbin. Ebbin would have won 35% and Garvey 24%. Krupicka did very well in Alexandria, winning 10 of the 13 Alexandrian precincts. I don't know of any other candidates on the horizon, but looks like it's Krupicka's time.

Did Krupicka Enable Englin's Adultery? (1.00 / 1)
Krupicka previously employed Shayna Englin, even while David was cheating on her.

Carter Batey, the manager of Rob Krupicka's state senate campaign, confirmed Friday that Shayna Englin, the wife of Del. David Englin (D-45), is employed by the Krupicka campaign. ... "Shayna has been working with the campaign for months," Batey said in an email.

Did Rob know?  Did he care?

Wow, apparently Rob has really rubbed some folks the wrong way. This is one of the crazier things I've seen on this site in a while.

Agreed, where do people come up with this stuff? (0.00 / 0)
So, now, if you work with someone or employ someone, you're responsible for their behavior on their own time at parties, in other cities, etc. Alrighty...

He could be right (0.00 / 0)
If Shayna had stayed home, making dinner, sewing, doing the laundry and vacuuming while wearing high heels and a pearl necklace, then David wouldn't have strayed.  Letting the womenfolk out of the house can lead to all kinds of evil, like cheating husbands, drinking husbands, an overall decline of moral values.  Especially if they go out with their hair uncovered and their wrists and ankles visible for all to see.

Not John, are you channeling Rick Santorum

He is running in the 45th primary. He is on the arlington school board.      I expect a few others will run too. When David Englin ran his first race , he beat 5 better known candidates.
