Virginia News Headlines: Friday Morning

by: lowkell

Fri Apr 13, 2012 at 06:30:21 AM EDT

Here are a few Virginia news headlines, political and otherwise, for Friday, April 12.

*McDonnell's wise move on Virginia's voter ID bill (Agreed for the most part, although why not go all the way and veto this "obnoxious bill, championed by Republican lawmakers, that would have needlessly stiffened voting requirements for Virginians." There's absolutely no place for it in our state or in our Democracy.)
*Local officials vow to fight McDonnell road plan (Probably McDonnell's worst failure as governor is transportation -- utter abdication of leadership, simply pathetic.)
*Va. House Speaker clashes with female activist amid working women fracas
*Virginia senator says ultrasound bill he voted for went 'way too far' (Gee, ya think?!?!?)
*Republicans reserve big chunk of Virginia airtime to help George Allen (Get ready for a deluge of slime and lies. Or, better yet, turn off your TV and read a book or whatever!)
*Gerry Connolly's campaign war chest tops $1 million (Connolly should romp this year, unlike last time around.)
*George Allen still in no hurry to endorse in Republican presidential race
*Kaine to speak at Alexandria dinner
*VP McDonnell? A bad concept
*Selling Virginia beef cattle directly to Canada
*Wildfires burning 20,000 acres in national forest areas
*Metro finance committee approves fare hikes
*Fairfax County considers creating virtual high school
*Goochland Democratic caucus canceled

What a sorry excuse from Puckett (0.00 / 0)
Shame for both him and Colgan...  How dare they say after the vote it went to far and that this vote was based on a deal

Yeah, there goes any lingering respect (0.00 / 0)
I had for Phil Puckett. Dude, are you SERIOUS?!?!?!?

At the very least (0.00 / 0)
At the very least, Puckett's reason for voting for the useless, expensive, nonsensical bill blatantly show the real motivation behind the whole exercise...making abortions harder to get and more expensive. He was honest enough to say it was because he was anti-abortion and not to give us the bulls*** that McDonnell did when McD said it was for the health of the woman.

So are you excusing the fact that as a democrat he went (0.00 / 0)
Against one of the solid democratic platform principles...
Women reproduction health care!
decisions to be made between a women, family and their medical advisers, not the state?
What makes him a democrat? Seriously?  He can be anti women all he wants in his private decisions, but when he crosses over and legislates his personal beliefs than into state sponsored medical discrimination towards women's health, than I throw him out as anyone I can remotely support as a democrat,

I want to know if the women's task force is going to (0.00 / 0)
Target Puckett and Colgan?

You mean the "Strike Force?" (0.00 / 0)
Regardless, the next State Senate election's not until 2015, and I presume Colgan's retiring, so I don't think there's much to target right now.
