Ann Romney: "I love...that there are women...who don't have a choice and...must go to work"

groceries you just bought, you had the money to go buy more.  Many folks don't...and that's the difference.

You also don't know what it is like to be without health insurance.  You were lucky enough to be able to have that emergency surgery without it devastating your family finances.

"Until I had my 5th child, I didn't have any help."   But you had the money to have help, anytime you wanted help.

You'll never understand what it is like for a regular family in America.  You can't begin to understand what it is like to not be able to buy the food your children desperately need.  You don't know what it's like to not be able to have the medical care you need.  You don't know how hard people fight just to survive.  You'll never know and you'll never understand.  That is the difference.

There are real differences between the lives of Barack and Michelle Obama and Willard and Ann Romney. Barack's mother for a time had to go on food stamps as she struggled to raise her son as a single parent. Willard was born into a wealthy family. Barack and Michelle had to pay back student loans for their education for many years after they graduated. Willard and Ann did not.

Barack and Michelle Obama understand the middle class because they once were a part of the middle class. Willard was born to wealth and simply used that to become much more wealthy.

Ann Romney is beating her "hard work" into the ground. No one ever said she didn't contribute mightily to her family as a wife and mother. The point that was clumsily made was that she had choices, many choices, that most people don't have.

When I was widowed at 42, with a 10-year-old child and a sick mother-in-law to care for, no one gave me an option to stay at home and not work to support the family. I'm not complaining, but I know one thing for sure. Ann Romney can't imagine what that is like.

The Romneys are about as out of touch with (0.00 / 0)

the vast majority of Americans as it's possible to be. Ann Romney is no more in touch than Willard from what I can tell, in fact they seem like they are two birds of a feather, two peas in a pod, two millionaires in a car elevator, you name it. The thing is, they COULD be rich and still be in touch with normal people, like FDR or JFK, but they're not. As Willard might say, given his love for France, "c'est la vie!"

and anhything that can be twisted to help them do that is A-okay, hence her regarding the clumsy comment about her never working a day as a "birthday present." The way they keep going back over and over to that remark until it's ragged from use shows how little they have to go, and the unbelievably clueless way they try to make use of it is so pitiful, callow, and... well, I'm speechless, too.
