Video: Rep. Connolly Welcomes Possible Artur Davis (D? R?) Run Against Him in 2014

by: lowkell

Fri May 25, 2012 at 19:28:00 PM EDT

This is amusing, per the story that former Rep. Artur Davis (D? R? Who the heck knows) might be considering a run against Rep. Gerry Connolly in 2014. By the way, I've heard a good deal about Davis, none of it good in any way. If he runs against Connolly, my guess is he'd get utterly blown out, but go for it!!! LOL
Chris Cillizza: I cannot let you go, I find this story fascinating. A former Alabama Democratic Congressman named Artur Davis who ran for governor in 2010 and lost the primary is being rumored to consider switching parties and running against Gerry Connolly at some point in the future. You worried?

Rep. Connolly: I welcome this development. First of all, it would seem to indicate the Republicans are conceding 2012, I welcome that. Secondly, the fact that they feel that they need to recruit a former member of Congress, a Democrat from Alabama who does not yet live in our district, to run against me in 2014 is a very welcome development and I look forward to debating him should he win the Republican nomination two years from now.

Why Connolly? (4.00 / 1)
This is an utterly bizarre story.

I think Davis has the profile of someone who could certainly be formidable as a Republican in Virginia politics, but probably something statewide, or perhaps in the state legislature first.

But taking on Connolly???

Is this just because the GOP views Connolly as vulnerable, regardless of the shoring up from redistricting, and they are desperate to find a candidate?

I'm less concerned about Connolly than I am about Moran. The Campaign for Primary Accountability backed down this time, but I fear that they'll come back in 2014 and try again to take him out. Who knows what DINO they'll recruit next time?

There is (or used to be) a lot to like about Artur Davis (0.00 / 0)
Support for fair pay, the VRA, unions ... he's going to have to eat a heck of a lot of his past words to have any hope of being elected as a Republican, anywhere, because he used to talk like (and vote like) a pretty good Democrat.

Work harder AND work smarter.

Sounds to me... (0.00 / 0) when a certain Alan Keyes of MD was recruited to run against a certain Barack Obama in IL.

Refresh my memory -- that didn't turn out so well for them, did it?

For a Sustainable Virginia. Now on Twitter.

I cannot help but wonder if Davis is attracted to running in VA after the recent GA session when the GOP attempted to drag the commonwealth into a state resembling 1960's Alabama. Perhaps Davis likes that concept. As far as switching parties let us not forget the fine example that Virgil Goode set doing exactly that.
