Over the past few days, there have been two major endorsements in the 49th House of Delegates district race between Alfonso Lopez and Stephanie Clifford.
First, Lopez was endorsed by former 49th District Delegate Karen Darner (D). According to Darner:
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working with Alfonso since the 1990s,” said Darner. “His years of community service in Arlington – from the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission to his time on the Board of the Shirlington Employment and Education Center – speak highly of his dedication. Alfonso has the passion and experience necessary to be an effective advocate for our progressive values in Richmond. I share Alfonso’s concerns about Republican initiatives in Richmond and his vision for moving Virginia forward. Alfonso is the right person at the right time for the 49th and he has my support on Tuesday, August 23.
Next, Clifford has been endorsed by former Delegate, former Congresswoman, and former (’05) Democratic LG nominee, Leslie Byrne. According to Byrne:
I spent eight years in the House of Delegates and I’ve seen what it takes to get things done. Stephanie Clifford has the characteristics and skills necessary to be an effective delegate for the people of Northern Virginia…Stephanie has entered the public arena much as I did…Volunteering puts you in the middle of the issues that affect Virginians and Stephanie is connected to the real needs of 49th District residents.
I have not endorsed in this race, but am definitely watching it closely, including who endorses and what they have to say about their preferred candidate. Stay tuned…
