Organization endorses Democratic candidates in three primaries and one general election

Richmond, VA – The Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia (DLOV) is proud to announce the unanimous endorsement of four candidates for the General Assembly in this year’s elections. Included in this first round of endorsement are three Latino candidates.

The DLOV executive board voted unanimously to endorse Esteban Garces, the Democratic Nominee in the 2nd House of Delegates district, Alfonso Lopez, candidate in the Democratic primary for the 49th House of Delegates district, Adam Ebbin, candidate in the Democratic primary for the 30th Senate district, and Jaime Areizaga-Soto, candidate in the Democratic primary for the 31st Senate district.

“2011 should be known at the year of the Latino candidate,” stated Political Director Antonio M. Elias. “We look forward to helping elect three Democratic Latinos to the General Assembly this November.”

“Esteban Garces stands out as an excellent example of a Latino who has contributed to his community in the vital and growing population of Prince William County” added Elias.

“DLOV is proud to endorse our friend Alfonso Lopez,” said President Andrew Rivera, “He has served Virginians and Americans with distinction for the administrations of Governor Kaine and President Obama.  His constant desire to empower our community is a needed asset for us in the General Assembly.”

DLOV board member, former candidate and retired Navy Commander Carlos Del Toro pointed to Jaime Areizaga-Soto’s Army service as one of his many qualifications: “As an Army Soldier, he has served our nation proudly and will best represent the interests of all Virginia veterans. His dedication to public service is unequaled.”

The Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia thanks Delegate Adam Ebbin for his years of service to the Latino community and wholeheartedly endorses his candidacy for the State Senate. Candidates Libby Garvey and Rob Krupicka must be commended for their dedication to improving the lives of Latinos in their roles in local government, and any of the candidates would be a champion for Latinos in Richmond. The board chose to endorse Delegate Ebbin due to his tireless work to pass legislation to improve basic human rights and his outspoken opposition to the anti-immigrant slate of legislation passed by the House of Delegates in recent years.

Alfonso Lopez is former president of DLOV, and Jaime Areizaga-Soto is the current Vice President. Democratic Primaries will be held in the 49th House of Delegates district and 30th and 31st State Senate districts on August 23, 2011.
