Veterans Endorse Douglass For Congress
Richmond, VA – VoteVets.org PAC, a national organization of veterans, is endorsing retired Brigadier General John Douglass for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, currently held by Frank Wolf.
“General Douglass is a rare breed, and just the kind of person we need in Congress,” said Ashwin Madia, Iraq War Veteran, and Interim Chairman of VoteVets.org PAC. “As an advisor to Presidents Reagan and Clinton, General Douglass had a rare big-picture view of how America’s military works, and what it will take to keep America secure. At the same time, given his experience rising through the ranks of the Air Force, he knows what our troops go through and what they need. In the private sector, he’s helped promote America’s industrial businesses and job expansion. This is the kind of experience and perspective that we need in Congress right now.”
In a military career in the Air Force all over the globe that culminated in service as a Brigadier General, John Douglass served as a production officer on our national ICBM programs; as a base procurement officer; on jet engine overhaul programs; as a member of the Naval Nuclear Propulasion Program; on the staff of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and as a special assistant to the Under Secretary of the Air Force for Research and Engineering.
General Douglas was selected to serve with the National Security Council as Director of Defense Programs. There, he was responsible for President Reagan’s Strategic Modernization Program and often briefed the President directly on key Defense and National Security Programs. He was a leader in establishing and supporting the Presidential Commission on Defense Reform known as the Packard Commission.
After serving in the White House, Douglass was named Deputy U.S. Military representative to NATO in Brussels, Belgium. In 1995, Douglass was called upon by President Clinton to contribute his expertise to the Pentagon by serving as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, where he was responsible for ensuring that our Sailors and Marines were fully supported with the ships, aircraft, weapons systems and equipment that they needed to fight and be safe. For his service to the Navy and our nation, he was honored with the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award.
More recently, General Douglas has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Aerospace Industries Association, where he represented a vital sector of America’s industrial base in promoting strong and sensible business practices at the Pentagon, an effective export policy for American aerospace products and the preservation and expansion of United States jobs.
Founded in 2006, the mission of VoteVets.org Political Action Committee is to elect Veterans to public office, with a focus on Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and hold public officials accountable for their words and actions that impact America’s 21st century troops and veterans. Though VoteVets.org PAC is non-partisan, candidates it backs must support VoteVets.org’s core mission and beliefs.
