Virginia House Democrats’ Statement on the resignation of Delegate Algie Howell

Richmond- Delegate David J. Toscano, House Democratic Leader, and Delegate Mark Sickles, House Democratic Caucus Chair, expressed their deep and heartfelt thanks to Delegate Algie Howell for eleven years of outstanding service to the people of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, on behalf of the House Democratic Caucus. Delegate Algie Howell has announced his resignation from the House of Delegates effective June 30, 2014.

“We will miss Algie in the House of Delegate and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Toscano. “The Commonwealth has benefited greatly from his years of tireless service to her people.”

“It has been a pleasure serving with my friend, Algie since we came to Richmond together in 2004. Not only will I miss him personally,” said Mark Sickles,  “but his presence on the floor of the House of Delegates will be sorely missed by all.”

Algie Howell was first elected in 2003, serving the 90th District, which includes Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Algie served on the House Committee on Appropriations, Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions, Committee on Privileges and Elections, and the Committee on Rules. Algie is a member of the Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, and served in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
