During the last General Assembly session, Delegate Margaret Ransone (R, HOD-99) introduced a bill to drug test anyone applying for extended unemployment benefits and force the person being tested to pay for the test.
The bill failed because the state Dept of Labor determined processing test results would cost a lot of $$$$. But, never fear, she’s preparing to introduce the same bill during the next GA session.
In EVERY state where such testing was implemented, the rate of people failing the drug test has been very, very low — one the order of 2 percent. Several states dropped the practice after a couple of years.
Well, anyway — here’s my proposal: DRUG TEST ALL APPLICANTS FOR CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS AND DO NOT ISSUE THE PERMIT UNTIL THE TEST RESULTS COME BACK.
After all — no one has been killed by an unemployment insurance check . . . but . . .
Does anyone know a Democratic member of the General Assembly who would introduce such a bill? While it likely would fail, damn, but it would be fun to watch the circus!!!
