We’re coming down the home stretch to June 13, and this morning we’ve seen a bunch of endorsements come across the transom. Here are two big ones for Lt. Governor — Mary Sue Terry for Susan Platt and Rep. Donald McEachin for Justin Fairfax. With 12 days to go, looks like s***’s getting real! LOL

Mary Sue Terry, Only Woman to Serve in Statewide Office in Virginia, Endorses Susan Platt for Lieutenant Governor

Great Falls, Virginia — Today, former Joe Biden chief of staff and candidate for lieutenant governor Susan Platt was endorsed by Mary Sue Terry, the only woman to serve in statewide office in Virginia’s 228-year history.

“I’m supporting Susan Platt because because she is a fighter and knows how to get things done,” said Terry. “The Office of Lieutenant Governor requires a person with experience and backbone. Susan has been a trailblazer with accomplishments to show for it, and I believe she will be the type of lieutenant governor that will make the Commonwealth proud.”

Mary Sue Terry was elected as attorney general in 1985, becoming the first and only woman elected to statewide office in the Commonwealth. She was re-elected in 1989 and was the Democratic nominee for governor in 1993. Platt and Terry founded The Farm Team and Emerge Virginia, two grassroots organizations dedicated to recruiting and training women candidates.

If elected, Susan Platt would become the first woman to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia.

CONGRESSMAN DONALD McEACHIN ENDORSES JUSTIN FAIRFAX FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA

ARLINGTON, Virginia — Today, Justin Fairfax for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia is proud to announce the endorsement of Congressman Donald McEachin. Since his election in 2016, Congressman McEachin has represented Virginia’s 4th Congressional District, which includes all of the counties of Charles City, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Prince George, Southampton, Surry, and Sussex, and the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond, as well as parts of the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico and the cities of Chesapeake and Suffolk.

Congressman Donald McEachin issued the following statement:

“I wholeheartedly endorse Justin Fairfax for Lieutenant Governor, in both the primary and general elections.

The 4th District includes urban, suburban and rural communities. All Virginians will benefit from the priorities that Justin will bring to the office of Lieutenant Governor: bringing economic security to working people, protecting reproductive and healthcare rights, and ensuring that our Commonwealth is a place where everyone is welcome and nobody is denied the chance to live the American dream.

Justin Fairfax will be a Lieutenant Governor of whom we can be proud. I urge Virginians to join me in voting for him on June 13.”

Upon receiving the endorsement of Congressman McEachin, Justin Fairfax gave this statement:

“I am honored that my candidacy for Lieutenant Governor has the support of Congressman Donald McEachin, who previously served as Democratic Caucus Chair in the Virginia Senate and as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. Congressman McEachin is also widely respected for his long and successful career as a litigator.”

Justin Fairfax has been endorsed by over 100 elected officials, party leaders, and Democratic activists from throughout Virginia and additional endorsements will continue to be announced ahead of the June 13th primary election.

In 2013, Fairfax was a Democratic candidate for Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He earned more than 48% of the statewide primary vote and the endorsement of The Washington Post, which cited his “agile and impressive command of the issues” and his “prosecutor’s passion for justice.” In that election – his first ever run for public office – Fairfax earned more than 68,000 votes and lost by less than 2 votes per precinct statewide. In 2014, Mr. Fairfax served as Co-Chair of Virginia Senator Mark Warner’s successful reelection campaign. He currently serves as a litigator in the Tysons Corner, VA office of the law firm Venable LLP.
