Proud of my friend Jaime Areizaga-Soto (and thanks to Governor McAuliffe for sending him to help Puerto Rico!). Great job as always by Jaime, who I got to know well during his (sadly unsuccessful) run for the Democratic State Senate nomination in SD-31 back in 2011.
Honored to represent Governor McAuliffe and Virginia in supporting Puerto Rico in managing the horrible destruction caused by Hurricane Maria. The full-time JAG of the National Guard told me yesterday that our Virginia rep “saved our lives” in singlehandedly managing the EMAC’s for Puerto Rico. Already met with Governor Rosselló, the PRNG TAG, and the outstanding Tito, FEMA’s Assistant Federal Coordinating Officer. Much work ahead! ¡Puerto Rico se Levanta!
Finally got out of the Emergency Center today and saw some of the devastation of Hurricane María. Glad to be able to help people contact their relatives with our satellite phone. Kudos to Coca Cola for the corporate citizenship in providing water to its neighbors in Cayey!
More pictures of the devastation in Puerto Rico: including a bridge I crossed a lot and never thought would collapse! Good to get together with my niece, Beatriz Areizaga, the First Lady of Puerto Rico, and provide insights and recommendations on recovery efforts. Glad to be able to connect Puerto Ricans with their relatives via our Virginia Department of Emergency Management satellite phone. ¡Puerto Rico se levanta!
