Just when you think Scott Taylor (R-VA02) – already in deep shit for his campaign’s #petitiongate fraud scandal – can’t get any lower, he puts out this disgraceful ad, on 9/11 no less (!), appropriately called “Disgrace.” As VA-02 Democratic nominee Elaine Luria says in her statement below, it’s “shameful and disappointing that on the anniversary of 9/11, as our community prepares for a major hurricane, Congressman Taylor would release such a trivial, tasteless and blatantly false attack ad.”
Seriously, though, think about it for a second; according to Taylor, if you call out his campaign’s scandalous, ILLEGAL behavior, you are running a “smear campaign”?!? Even worse, in a way, is Taylor throwing his service in the military out there as some sort of shield against his campaign’s scandalous, ILLEGAL behavior. You can’t get any lower than that, really, hiding behind the military and the flag on 9/11, no less. As for the Nancy Pelosi part of the ad, that’s just cookie-cutter idiocy by Republicans who have nothing positive to offer and who have spent years – and millions of dollars – demonizing Pelosi…for absolutely no good reason. Let’s just hope that on November 6, VA-02 voters not only don’t fall for this “disgrace,” but reject it resoundingly by electing Elaine Luria by a wide margin!
Statement by Elaine Luria on Attack Ad
“Many voters have reached out to me today regarding a new ad from Scott Taylor and I wanted to address it. I find it shameful and disappointing that on the anniversary of 9/11, as our community prepares for a major hurricane, Congressman Taylor would release such a trivial, tasteless and blatantly false attack ad.
“Today I reflect on where I was seventeen years ago – standing watch supervising the overhaul of two nuclear reactors on an aircraft carrier in Norfolk Naval Shipyard after having just returned from a 6-month deployment to the Middle East. My fellow sailors and I did not know what America’s response would be to these horrific acts of terrorism, but we were ready to put the ship back together and be part of that response.  I spent the next 16 years serving our nation, deploying an additional four times, and as a Commanding Officer of a combat ready unit, sending many sailors into harm’s way.  I didn’t expect, on this solemn day of remembrance, that I would also have to respond to this absurd, childish TV ad. Congressman Taylor has made it clear through his actions and those of his staff that this type of shameless politics is routine for him.
“What I learned in that Navy is when you are in charge, the buck stops with you. Congressman Taylor needs to stand up and stop trying to shift the blame. We deserve better than this from our representative.”
Elaine Luria is the Democratic nominee for Virginia’s Second Congressional District, which includes all of Accomack and Northampton Counties, the cities of Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, as well as portions of Norfolk, Hampton, and York and James City Counties. The district supported Governor Ralph Northam by 4 percentage points last November and is rated as a TOSS-UP race by non-partisan election forecasters at Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball, Politico, the Cook Political Report and CNN Politics, making it one of the most likely seats to flip in 2018.
