The following statement is from Virginia Secretary of Education Atif Qarni regarding the candidacy of Victor Angry for Prince William County Supervisor (Neabsco Magisterial District). The Democratic nominating election is this afternoon at the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (note: this is LITERALLY a “firehouse primary”).
Today is an exciting day.
In Prince William County, there is a special election to pick the Democratic nominee for (Dark Blue) Neabsco Magisterial District, Board of County Supervisor (BOCS). Prince William has an opportunity to elect its first ever African American to the BOCS, Victor Angry. In a county that is over 22% African American, this change is long overdue. We have a unique opportunity to make history in Black History Month.
For other firsts in Virginia, I plan to speak today at the kickoff for Abrar Omeish, who is running for Fairfax County School Board (a very blue county). If elected, she will become the first Muslim elected to the Fairfax County School Board, better reflecting the diversity of the county. I am excited to see this former Fairfax County student become a leader in education.
Progress is impossible without change.
