See below for video from Thursday’s HD57 candidate forum, put on by the League of Women Voters of the Charlottesville Area. The candidates, both Democrats, are Sally Hudson and Kathy Galvin – running for the seat currently held by Del. David Toscano, who is retiring. I found both candidates to be impressive, with Charlottesville City Council member Galvin focused more locally (e.g., on transportation and affordable housing); while UVA Assistant Professor (of public policy, economics and education) Hudson – who is also a “dedicated election reform advocate and founder of FairVote Virginia, a cross-partisan coalition working to revive democracy via ranked choice voting” – focused more on systemic reforms needed to voting, campaign finance, redistricting, etc. Anyway, check out the video if you’re interested in this primary in deep-blue HD57.
