Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia Endorses 40 Reproductive Health Care Champions for State Senate and House of Delegates
Richmond, Va. — Today, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia endorsed 40 incumbents for the State Senate and House of Delegates. Each candidate has maintained a 100% voting record in support of sexual and reproductive health and rights. With President Trump in the White House and Justice Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, Virginians must elect leaders who will create backstops to Trump’s harmful anti-abortion agenda. In fact, 66 percent of Virginians support Roe v. Wade. Voters have made it clear, they want more access to health care, including safe, legal abortion.
Statement from Jenny Black, Chair, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:
“This year, Virginians experienced first-hand Trump’s callous and dangerous anti-abortion agenda. Extremist groups turned private health care decisions made by families in the Commonwealth into a national campaign built on lies and misinformation in order to ban abortion. This election is a pivotal moment for Virginians to send a clear message to outside extremist groups and the Trump administration: we will not allow our community to be political collateral.
The incumbents endorsed stood strong for reproductive rights and health care, including safe, legal abortion. In the face of relentless attacks, they fought for the more than 26,000 patients who rely on Planned Parenthood for birth control, STD testing, and treatment, primary care, transgender care, including hormone therapy, and abortion. We look forward to continuing the work to not only protect access to health care but to expand it too. They are the types of leaders to effect change in Virginia. Our futures and our lives depend on them.”
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia and Planned Parenthood Virginia PAC will be educating voters and turning them out on Election Day. The campaign will reach hundreds of thousands of voters at their doors, online, and through the mail. Among other efforts, the program includes:
- An army of volunteers and canvassers to knock on approximately 40,000 doors; and
- An online and digital program that will reach over 150,000 people across targeted districts.
Additional endorsements will be made in the weeks ahead.
