I’ve mostly been assuming Del. Lee Carter would be entering the race for the Democratic 2021 gubernatorial nomination, but now it’s official. Clearly, Carter – whose Twitter bio says “Ask me about Socialism” – will be running to the left of former Gov. Terry McAuliffe and State Senator Jennifer McClellan, also presumably to the left of Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax. Perhaps ideologically, Carter’s main competition for the nomination will be former Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy, who is running as a strongly progressive candidate? Anyway…what are your thoughts?
P.S. It’s worth noting that Carter was Bernie Sanders’ 2020 Virginia campaign co-chair, with Del. Elizabeth Guzman.
It’s no secret that Virginia is divided, but it’s not red vs. blue. It’s the haves and the have-nots.
One side has the lawyers and the lobbyists, but Virginia needs a governor that’ll fight for the rest of us.
