MCLEAN, VA – Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw (Fairfax County, and Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church), Senators Adam Ebbin (Arlington and Fairfax Counties, and City of Alexandria), Barbara Favola (Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties), Dave Marsden (Fairfax County), George Barker (Fairfax and Prince William Counties, and City of Alexandria), and Delegates Alfonso Lopez (Arlington and Fairfax Counties), Mark Sickles (Fairfax County), Kathleen Murphy (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties), Karrie Delaney (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties), and Kaye Kory (Fairfax County) today endorsed Terry McAuliffe for governor. In their endorsement, these powerful Fairfax-area leaders touted Terry’s big, bold vision to create a more equitable Virginia, make an unprecedented investment in education, and ensure all Virginians benefit from the Commonwealth’s post-COVID economic recovery.

They join House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn and the former and current chairs of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Sharon Bulova and Jeff McKay, and a growing coalition of support for Terry McAuliffe from across the Commonwealth. Earlier this week, Terry announced that his campaign raised a record $6.1 million in 2020, more than any Virginia gubernatorial candidate in an off-year in history. More than 9,000 donors have contributed to Terry for Virginia, with support from all of Virginia’s 133 cities and counties, and more than 90% of donations were under $100.

Terry’s large and growing coalition of prominent Fairfax County supporters includes:

House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (Fairfax County)

Former Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay

“As our next governor, Terry will fight for big, bold ideas to get things done for communities across the Commonwealth,” said House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn (Fairfax). “I’ve known Terry for a long time and I know Virginians can count on him to deliver for us, just as he has time and time again.”

“A great post-COVID economy starts with an educated and well-trained workforce. We need Virginia to lead the nation and Terry McAuliffe gets that,” said Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw (Fairfax County, and Cities of Alexandria and Falls Church). “He knows that investing in education is the best investment the Commonwealth can make. I strongly support and endorse his candidacy for governor.”

“Terry McAuliffe has the bold vision and proven track record we need to push Virginia forward. His transformational education and COVID recovery plans will ensure that every Virginian benefits from our recovery and has access to good paying 21st-century jobs. I am proud to endorse Terry and his progressive, forward-thinking vision,” said Senator Adam Ebbin (Arlington and Fairfax Counties, and City of Alexandria).

“I have seen up close Terry’s commitment to creating new jobs and investing boldly in our education system, and I know he won’t let anything stand in the way of delivering for Virginians. Terry has the vision and the experience to get it done, and I’m excited about what we will be able to accomplish together for Virginia,” said Senator Barbara Favola (Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun Counties).

“As governor, Terry completely transformed Virginia’s juvenile justice system and made tackling criminal justice reform a priority, even in the face of relentless Republican opposition. Terry will bring that bold vision for equity and justice to the governor’s office and use this as an opportunity to go big. We need Terry’s leadership at this critical moment,” said Senator Dave Marsden (Fairfax County).

“From education to economic recovery, Virginians need a bold vision for the future that recognizes this moment as an opportunity to go big. Our economy has been resilient during the pandemic, outperforming nearly all other states. We need strong leadership to leap forward as we recover from the pandemic,” said Senator George Barker (Fairfax and Prince William Counties, and City of Alexandria). “Terry McAuliffe has demonstrated he will meet this moment by going big and bold to make sure Virginians come out of this pandemic better than we were before. This is why I am proud to endorse Terry for governor.”

“The full effects of this pandemic, especially in our economy, are yet to be fully known. But what we do know is that we are going to have to go big to create and rebuild the post-COVID economy. This will require bold leadership, which is why we need Terry McAuliffe. He has unveiled a plan to create an equitable post-COVID economy in Virginia that lifts up communities of color. I proudly endorse Terry’s bold vision for the future,” said Senator Janet Howell (Fairfax County).

“Virginia’s Latino community has been hit hard by this pandemic. Our recovery efforts must be big and bold to create good jobs, give all students access to a quality education, and spur the creation of the affordable housing our overlooked communities desperately need. I am proud to endorse him for governor,” said Delegate Alfonso Lopez (Arlington and Fairfax Counties).

“The energy advantage Terry McAuliffe brings to the Governor’s race is undeniable,” said Delegate Mark Sickles (Fairfax County). “When his first term ended, he did not slow down—he just turned his full attention to helping us gain majority control in the General Assembly. I know he will be an effective partner to produce the progressive change we need.”

“For years, Terry McAuliffe has helped elect Democrats across Virginia. He worked his heart out for us. He held events for us, he mentored us, he raised funds for us and we flipped the General Assembly blue. With Terry as our Governor the sky would be the limit on what we can achieve for Virginians now and in the future,” said Delegate Kathleen Murphy (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties). “I’m endorsing Terry today because Virginia needs his experience, energy, and bold vision to help recover from this pandemic. I look forward to everything we will accomplish for Virginians with a Democratic legislature and Terry as our Governor.”

“We can’t let this pandemic, and the disparities it has made worse, disrupt our kids’ education. Terry McAuliffe sees this moment as an opportunity to go big and act boldly to ensure our kids have a quality, world-class education. He will make an unprecedented investment in our education system – increasing teacher pay so it is finally above the national average and closing learning gaps our kids face. Our kids and our Commonwealth’s future needs Terry’s bold vision,” said Delegate Karrie Delaney (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties).

“Terry McAuliffe is a bold, forward-thinking, proven leader and I am proud to endorse him for governor. I have known Terry for years and I know he won’t hesitate to go big and be bold to rebuild our economy, attract and create good-paying jobs, and help the Commonwealth emerge from COVID stronger than we were before. That’s why I’m proud to stand with Terry McAuliffe,” said Delegate Kaye Kory (Fairfax County).

“This is a critical moment in our lives. We’ve got to think big and act boldly if we want to give every Virginia child a world-class education and create economic opportunities that lift all people up,” said Terry McAuliffe. “I’m honored to have the endorsements of these Fairfax leaders who have been working diligently for Virginia families during this pandemic. I look forward to working with them to deliver a more equitable future for families across Northern Virginia and our entire Commonwealth.”

Since launching his campaign, Terry has unveiled bold plans to strengthen Virginia’s education system and create an equitable post-COVID economy. As governor, Terry will get teacher pay above the national average for the first time in Virginia history, expand preschool to every 3 and 4-year old child in need, and get every single Virginia student online. He will also take bold and decisive action to create jobs, protect workers, invest in mental health services, and rebuild Virginia’s thriving network of small businesses, particularly Black and Brown-owned businesses.
