Thursday (1/7) Virginia Data on COVID-19: New Cases Hit 2-Day, 3-Day, 10-Day Record Highs; Hospitalizations Hit Record High of 3,000

See below for graphics of the newly posted COVID-19 numbers by the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. So, at this point (1/7), in Virginia we’re at 382,679 total reported – confirmed plus probable – cases (note that actual cases, as well as deaths, could be higher, maybe even a LOT higher, based on stories like this one in the NY Times), 18,790 hospitalizations and 5,275 deaths from COVID-19. The number of reported cases went up 5,379 (+1.4%) in the latest statistics, which is a slightly slower rate of increase than the day before, when reported cases were up 5,387 (+1.5%). As for hospitalizations, they went up 154 (+0.8%), which is a faster rate of increase than the day before, when hospitalizations were up 110 (+0.6%).  Deaths are reported +49, compared to +35 the previous day. The number of PCR-ONLY test results is currently at 4,463,768 (up 35,557 from yesterday).
