Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor today endorsed Mark Herring for re-election as Attorney General in a newly-released digital video. In announcing her support for Herring’s re-election, Taylor, who is one of Virginia’s leading progressive prosecutors and a fierce advocate for smart criminal justice reforms, cites Herring’s ongoing work to protect and expand Virginia’s civil rights, the tough fights he has taken on and won, and his transformation of the office into a protector of the people after two decades of Republican control.
“For two decades, the men serving as Virginia’s Attorney General either ignored civil rights or actively worked to use the law against people in Virginia who didn’t think or look like them. Then came Mark Herring, and he transformed the role into a protector of the people, working to expand our freedoms,” says Taylor in the new digital video. “He took on violence, racism, and the big corporations polluting our Bay and flooding our communities with opioids.
“I thought about running for attorney general myself because Mark showed us how the office can be a powerful force for good. And right now the office is in good hands. So when I heard Mark Herring was running again for attorney general, he’s got my vote, and I hope he’ll have yours.”

During two terms of historic, progressive achievement as Virginia’s Attorney General, Mark Herring has taken on tough fights on behalf of Virginians and won time and time again. He has transformed the role of attorney general after a generation of Republican control, focusing on protecting Virginians and their rights, and helped make Virginia a national leader on progressive priorities like criminal justice reform, police accountability, addressing systemic racism in schools, access to affordable healthcare, gun violence prevention, womens’ rights, and environmental protection.
In addition to Commonwealth’s Attorney Taylor, Herring has so far earned the endorsement of Congressman Don Beyer, Senate President Pro Tempore L.
