Kirk Cox “Thrilled” to Align Himself with Opposing COVID-19 Relief and Overturning 2020 Election

Richmond, VA — Today, Republican Rep. Morgan Griffith endorsed Kirk Cox’s flailing gubernatorial campaign. Griffith — who is known for his extreme pro-Trump partisanship — has already voted once against the American Rescue Plan, opposing the popular proposal to provide crucial relief for working families and small businesses, aid to help schools reopen safely, and more resources to vaccinate Americans.

Griffith’s right-wing extremism drew widespread condemnation in Virginia when he spent months undermining the 2020 election. After he and his colleagues were attacked by pro-Trump rioters on January 6, Griffith voted to overturn the 2020 election to keep Donald Trump in office.

Kirk Cox’s long track record of failed leadership and extreme conservatism is out of touch with Virginians’ values — but he is desperately sprinting even further right to try and get ahead in this crowded, chaotic Republican primary. Courting the endorsement of someone who agrees with Amanda Chase about the 2020 election is just his latest attempt to catch up to the race’s frontrunner.

“Rep. Griffith has spent the year fighting to overturn the 2020 election and opposing the American Rescue Plan’s direct checks for working families, crucial aid for small businesses, and resources to help schools reopen safely,” said Manuel Bonder, DPVA spokesman. “The fact that Kirk Cox is ‘thrilled’ to have his endorsement is nothing but another reminder that Cox is running as a hyper-partisan Republican extremist who is unfit to lead Virginia.”
