From the Hala Ayala for Lt. Governor campaign:
Ayala Releases Plan to Protect Reproductive Rights and Expand Access to Care
Plan calls for passing a constitutional amendment to protect bodily autonomy, expanding full reproductive care, and ending discrimination based on reproductive choices among other policy priorities
Woodbridge, VA — Delegate Hala Ayala, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor, released her plan to protect reproductive rights and expand access to care this afternoon. Her comprehensive plan comes as the Supreme Court announced that it would hear a case that it would hear a case about the constitutionality of Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban, directly challenging Roe v. Wade.
A women’s rights activist for more than a decade, Ayala has a longstanding record of being a champion for women’s rights, which is why she was proud to be the Chief Co-Patron to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. During her time in the General Assembly, Ayala has stood up to Republican attacks on reproductive care and attempts to defund Planned Parenthood. She has consistently earned top ratings from NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia during her time in the General Assembly and has earned the endorsements of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, Vote Pro-Choice, and EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest organization supporting pro-choice women.
Ayala’s plan includes:
- Passing a constitutional amendment codifying Roe v Wade,
- Ensuring access to contraceptive care,
- Ending Discrimination Based on Reproductive Decisions,
- Starting a Paid Family and Medical Leave Program,
- Fighting to End Fake Clinics in Virginia, and
- Addressing Maternal, Fetal, and Infant Mortality.
“The Supreme Court decided last week to hear a case that will directly challenge Roe v Wade,” said Delegate Hala Ayala. “It is more important than ever before for our leaders to be outspoken about protecting Virginians’ right to bodily autonomy. I’m proud to release my plan today to protect reproductive freedom and expand access to reproductive care for every Virginian. As Chief Deputy Whip, I have been a champion for reproductive rights and care, and as Lieutenant Governor, I will continue to fight tooth and nail to protect and expand reproductive freedoms.”
