MCLEAN, VA – Terry McAuliffe held a
virtual conversation with Virginia House Speaker Eileen FIller-Corn and Virginia business leader Gil Bland to discuss the importance of rebuilding an equitable post-COVID-19 economy, and the path forward for Virginia’s middle class. Terry, Speaker Filler-Corn, and Mr. Bland discussed Terry’s numerous plans to rebuild Virginia in the aftermath of the pandemic and talked about what is at stake in the post-COVID recovery if Donald Trump’s hand-picked nominee, Glenn Youngkin, gets elected.
Terry recognizes that supporting Virginia’s workers and businesses will be key to securing the Commonwealth’s long-term economic recovery and a more equitable future. That’s why his
bold plan calls for ensuring every Virginian has access to paid sick, family and medical leave, unemployment benefits, giving hard-working Virignians a raise by accelerating the minimum wage increase to $15 an hour by 2024, and strengthening access for all Virginians to basic needs like nutritious food, affordable housing, and health care.
Below are highlights from the conversation:
“We need [Terry McAuliffe] to be our next governor. We need [Terry] to move forward with all that we’ve been able to accomplish so far. We need to continue economic momentum and [Terry’s] plans to invest $2 billion in our schools,” said Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn. “Those are the next steps that we need to take to ensure that our economy bounces back, we put in place policies to ensure all Virginians are sharing in the recovery. That’s what [Terry is] about, that’s what [Terry has] done and we’re confident that’s what [Terry will] be able to do moving forward.”
“Virginia is currently able to say we’re the number one state for business, because of what [Terry is] talking about with health care and education,” said business leader Gil Bland. “I’m very grateful for [Terry’s] insight and to use [his] power as governor to correct the inequities of the past. This is who we are as a Commonwealth.”
“They’ve got a Republican nominee, and what he has already said is going to risk everything that we’ve ever put forward over the last eight years,” said Terry McAuliffe. “He has only put out one plan in five months. And guess what that was, that was a Donald Trump plan on election integrity…he comes right out attacking women’s rights, gay rights. We’ve got to get past this and rebuild an economy that’s equitable and works for everyone.”
