From the Democratic Party of Virginia:
Glenn Youngkin’s Team of Republican Extremists
Richmond, VA — This week, Glenn Youngkin earned the endorsement of a slew of hardline Republican governors from across the country. In yet another testament to his far-right agenda, Youngkin touted these endorsements and said he was “honored” to have the support of GOP governors who represent some of the most extreme Republican views in the country. From supporting Donald Trump’s dangerous election lies and doing the NRA’s bidding no matter the cost, to discriminating against LGBTQ+ children and fighting for draconian restrictions on the right to choose, Youngkin’s new allies are dramatically out of step with Virginians.
In Texas, Gov. Abbott’s abysmal record includes steadfastly backing Trump’s election lies and supporting extreme voter suppression measures — just like Youngkin. Abbott is one of the most hardline anti-choice governors anywhere in the country, putting him in perfect company with Youngkin, who says he will oppose laws allowing Virginians to seek abortions. Gov. Abbott is also a 100% loyalist to the NRA and the radical gun lobby — once again, just like Glenn Youngkin.
Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota has made a name for himself by fighting to discriminate against LGBTQ+ children — a position that puts Youngkin right at home with him. Burgum supported and signed into law a bill permitting student groups at publicly funded colleges and schools to discriminate against LGBTQ+ students.
Gov. Bill Lee of Tennessee is among the worst pandemic governors in the entire country, and has refused to lead as his state’s COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations spiraled out of control. Former Gov. Nikki Haley, of course, is best known for her complete allegiance to Donald Trump — even after an embarrassingly futile attempt to launder her reputation after Trump’s January 6th insurrection. And, she signed extreme abortion bans in South Carolina, just as Youngkin would in Virginia.
“Youngkin’s new endorsers are the latest in a long line of Republican extremists teaming up to help Glenn drag Virginia backwards,” said DPVA spokesman Manuel Bonder. “From these extreme governors to Donald Trump, Corey Stewart, and Amanda Chase — it is clear where Youngkin’s loyalties lie. Unfortunately for him, Virginians have resoundingly rejected Trump and his allies — and this November, they will once again.”
