New Reports Show Virginia House Democrats Continuing To Grow Their Fundraising Advantage

Richmond, VA — With the June 8 primary less than a week away, new fundraising reports show Democratic candidates for the House of Delegates dominating their Republican opponents and continuing to grow their fundraising advantages. House Democrats collectively raised over $6 million from April 1 through May 27 and ended the reporting period with over $9 million on hand, putting them in a strong position to defend their majority and compete in more districts than ever before.

Democratic House Candidates
Raised – $6,217,734
COH – $9,139,500

Republican House Candidates
Raised – $1,847,517
COH – $3,979,289

Meanwhile the gulf between Democrats and Republicans has only gotten wider. Democrats grew their cash on hand advantage by over $350,000 from the first quarter, and now have a cash advantage of over $5 million. Democrats also out-raised their Republican opponents by over $4 million. With a major fundraising advantage this year that is only growing larger, House Democrats remain in their strongest position heading into a general election in years.

“From expanding voting rights to making health care more affordable, raising the minimum wage, helping Virginians weather the COVID-19 pandemic, and so much more, House Democrats have shown Virginians just how much progress can be made with Democratic leadership,” said DPVA Communications Director Grant Fox. “These fundraising numbers are just the latest sign that Virginians want to continue down that path of a strong pandemic recovery and trust Democrats to keep delivering on their promises. As Republicans fall further behind and continue parroting Donald Trump’s far-right extremism, they’re only growing further out of touch with Virginians.”
