BREAKING: Governor Youngkin Sued By Over A Dozen Media Organizations For Hiding Records and Refusing to Release “Tip Line” Emails in Violation of FOIA Law

Outlets Including Sinclair Broadcast Group, the Associated Press, NBCUniversal Media and More Join Suit

Richmond, VA – Today it was announced that over a dozen of media organizations are suing Governor Glenn Youngkin for violating FOIA Laws as a result of his refusal to turn over records on emails sent to his “tip line” to report “divisive.”

Since releasing his authoritarian “tip line,” his administration has faced backlash from across the country. A growing list of educators, students, parents, and more have all condemned the Governor’s efforts to bully educators and whitewash history.

A couple of months ago, Governor Youngkin refused to release the received emails from numerous FOIA requests and attempted to claim the emails sent to the tip line are “working papers and correspondence of the Office of the Governor.”

Here is the full list of media organizations that are suing the Governor:

  • Publishing Company
  • The Associated Press
  • Axios Media
  • Cable News Network
  • The Daily Dot
  • Gannett Satellite Information Network
  • Gray Media Group
  • National Public Radio
  • NBCUniversal Media
  • Tegna
  • Scripps Media
  • Sinclair Broadcast Group
  • WP Company

“The Governor isn’t the co-CEO of a company anymore – he is the governor of the Commonwealth and works for Virginians who deserve full transparency,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “We are glad to see over a dozen media organizations fight for full transparency and accountability from the Youngkin administration. The Governor’s brazen attempt to cover up public records is unnerving and unfortunately is setting a dangerous precedent of secrecy.”
