This morning, Del. Danica Roem (D-Prince William County) is announcing her candidacy for State Senate in the newly drawn, “open” 30th district (see video, statement below). That district, located in Prince William County/Manassas City/Manassas Park City is “blue”-leaning but not “solid blue,” with Terry McAuliffe having defeated Glenn Youngkin there by a 51.5%-47.8%. So clearly, this is an absolute MUST-WIN district for Democrats in 2023, and Danica Roem is certainly a very strong, “top-tier” candidate to do just that. Go Danica!
Today, I’m announcing my candidacy for the newly drawn, open 30th District of the Virginia state Senate in 2023.
I’m pursuing the Democratic nomination to continue my work of serving the people of my lifelong home community of western Prince William County and greater Manassas by building on my record of passing 32 bills into law during my 2.5 terms representing the 13th District of the Virginia House of Delegates, including 10 to feed hungry kids.
I’ll keep working to finally finish fixing Route 28 and Rollins Ford Road, deliver more mass transit to our area including a bus line to the Dulles corridor, continue expanding Medicaid and raising teacher pay, protecting our environment — including the Rural Crescent — and making Virginia a more inclusive commonwealth.
If a federal court rules for one-year special elections for the House of Delegates in 2022, then I will run for re-election to the House this fall in order to continue serving my constituents and maintaining my seniority, which is transferable to the state Senate.
But no matter what happens in 2022, I’m grateful to the people of western Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park to declare my candidacy for the state Senate in 2023.
So please contribute at the link below and thank you so, so much for all of your support throughout the last five years. I’m grateful to be endorsed by the four Democratic state senators who currently represent greater Prince William — Sens. George Barker, Scott Surovell, Jeremy McPike and John Bell — and to run to serve you and our community.
Warmly,
Danica
