With this announcement by Amy Laufer, there are now three Democrats – Laufer, Kellen Squire and Donna Price – running in HD55 (Albemarle, Louisa, Nelson; won by Terry McAuliffe with 55.5% of the vote in 2021) to take on incumbent, right-wing Del. Rob Bell (R). May the best Democrat win – and take back this seat for the “blue team!”

AMY LAUFER LAUNCHES FOR DELEGATE (HD-55)

Teacher & Fmr School Board Chair, Community Leader & Fmr Chair of the Albemarle Democrats Runs to Meet this Moment

Albemarle, VA – Today, Amy Laufer formally launched her campaign for House of Delegates District 55 to meet this moment. Laufer has served her community for decades, solving problems and delivering results. She’s a teacher, former school board chair, founder of Virginia’s List, community leader, disability rights champion, former Chair of the Albemarle Democrats and mother of three. Laufer’s running because Central Virginia needs a tough-as-nails, get things done Democrat to represent us in Richmond.

“We need a champion who can beat back Glenn Younkin and Republicans’ seemingly relentless and extreme attacks on our way of life. As your Delegate, I won’t back down and instead deliver smart investments that uplift our families and carry our progressive values,” said Laufer.

“I cannot believe that my daughter has less rights than I did at her age. We have to protect affordable, safe, and unrestricted access to healthcare. Gun violence cannot be ignored either — it is a public health crisis. We must enact comprehensive policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyday Virginians.”

Laufer continued to detail why she’s the best candidate to beat Del. Rob Bell and help Democrats win back the majority in 2023.

“I have a record of making things happen. I am so proud that as a school board Chair we expanded the support and resources to all of our students and they could prosper in strong public schools.”

Laufer also founded Virginia’s List, which supports Democratic women running for state office, such as Delegates Danica Roem, Elizabeth Guzman, Lashrecse Aird, Jennifer Carroll Foy and Hala Ayala. As Chair of the Albemarle Democrats, Laufer also led efforts to grow grassroots infrastructure to ensure Democratic success.

Laufer will prioritize and support legislation that provides access to quality affordable healthcare, gives every Virginia student a world class education and continues to build a green economy that helps solve our climate change crisis.

Within three weeks of Laufer filing to run, she raised over $61,000 from about 120 local donors.
