Rodney Willett Releases New Ad Highlighting His Opponent’s Opposition to Common Sense Gun Safety Legislation

Riley Shaia Embraces MAGA Extremists Who Want to Make it Easier for Domestic Abusers to Get Firearms

HENRICO, VA – This week, Rodney Willett’s campaign released its latest ad, “Common Sense,” highlighting the contrast between himself and his opponent, Riley Shaia, on common sense gun safety law. The ad, which features Henrico Sheriff Alisa Gregory and Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor, highlights Shaia’s embrace of extremist MAGA Republicans that oppose gun safety measures like Virginia’s Red Flag Law. Delegate Rodney Willett voted for the legislation when it was passed in 2020 and voted against its repeal this past session. The law, which is supported by over 80 percent of Virginians, has been shown to decrease mass shootings and firearm suicides.

Common Sense

Transcript:

ALISA GREGORY, HENRICO SHERIFF: It’s common sense.

SHANNON TAYLOR, HENRICO COMMONWEALTH’S ATTORNEY: Domestic abusers should not get guns.

GREGORY: But Riley Shaia embraces MAGA extremists.

TAYLOR: Who vote against stopping domestic abusers from getting guns. Even when a judge says they are dangerous.

GREGORY: Making our job harder

TAYLOR: Shaia and our MAGA friends are just wrong.

GREGORY: Rodney Willett supports law enforcement.

TAYLOR: And smart gun safety laws. Like background checks.

GREGORY: That helps us keep you safe.

Excellent ad by VA State Senator Aaron Rouse:

NEW AD: Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Partnering with Virginia HD-84 Candidate Nadarius Clark to Launch New TV and Digital Ad
Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund is Supporting the Ad, Which Will Run in the Norfolk Media Market as Part of $200,000 TV and Digital Ad Buy
SUFFOLK — Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund announced that it is contributing $50,000 to Nadarius Clark’s campaign for Virginia’s 84th House of Delegates district to support a new TV and digital ad in the Norfolk media market. The ad highlights Clark’s support of law enforcement and common-sense gun safety laws — like background checks on all gun sales and an assault weapons ban — that help keep guns away from domestic abusers and dangerous people.
“The stakes in this race couldn’t be more urgent: Nadarius Clark will fight to protect Virginia’s recent gun safety wins, while MAGA Republican Mike Dillender will continue to push a ‘guns everywhere’ agenda that puts communities and law enforcement at risk,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is going all-out to help Virginians elect leaders who will work to protect the Commonwealth’s communities and schools from gun violence.”
“Guns are now the leading cause of death among children and teens, killing more young Americans than vehicle crashes, drug overdoses, and cancer combined,” said Nadarius Clark, candidate in HD-84. “And now, after MAGA Republicans defunded gun violence prevention in our Commonwealth last year by 60%, we have an obligation to fight for real public safety in Virginia. As delegate, I will prioritize the gun violence prevention initiatives our communities desperately need to protect our families, schools, and law enforcement.”
Everytown for Gun Safety has invested millions in Virginia in recent years – outspending the NRA by 4:1 in 2019, when the House of Delegates and state Senate both flipped to gun sense majorities for the first time in nearly 25 years. The General Assembly then passed a suite of gun safety reforms, including legislation to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and landmark legislation expanding background checks.
Everytown is also mobilizing its grassroots army of hundreds of thousands of Virginia Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action supporters to communicate directly with voters about the stakes on gun safety in this election.

AD TRANSCRIPT: “PROUD”

As a Deputy Sheriff…
And with 10 years in law enforcement…
I’m proud to work with Delegate Nadarius Clark.
Nadarius supports law enforcement by promoting the funding, the training, and retention of police officers…
And as a responsible gun owner, Nadarius champions gun safety laws, like an assault weapons ban and universal background checks…
So domestic abusers and dangerous people don’t get guns.
There’s no question: For safer communities, re-elect Delegate Nadarius Clark.
Paid for by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund.
