As always, Republicans hate democracy. In this case, after trying to get Democratic-endorsed Fairfax County School Board candidate Marcia St. John-Cunning kicked off the ballot, they’re now trying to prevent her from taking office, even though she won the election overwhelmingly (61.3%-33.4%). But yeah, that’s how the MAGA/Trump GOP rolls. Pathetic.
Republicans Launch Yet Another Frivolous Attempt to Disqualify Fairfax County School Board Member-Elect Marcia St. John-Cunning After Her Decisive Election Victory
Franconia, VA, Nov.10, 2023 – The Eighth Congressional District Republican Committee filed another frivolous lawsuit seeking to disqualify Marcia C. St. John-Cunning from taking office. This legal jujitsu comes after St. John-Cunning won a decisive victory on Tuesday by more than a two-to-one margin against Kevin Pinkney, the Republican endorsed candidate. The maneuver by the GOP ignores the will of our citizens, deludes our democracy, and discourages qualified candidates from considering public office.
“Republicans knew they couldn’t win the Franconia District board seat, so they have resorted to frivolous, expensive litigation. Franconia District voters deserve their constitutional right to vote and for every vote to count. On Tuesday, I won the Franconia School Board seat by more than a two-to-one margin. Kevin Pinkney lost on ideas, so now he is arguing about process.” said Marcia C. St. John-Cunning, Franconia School Board – Elect.
Taking over school boards by any means is a well-documented national GOP strategy. This should be a wakeup call. The amount of taxpayer funded court time the Republicans are wasting with bogus lawsuits illustrates how far the Republicans will go to disenfranchise voters and cause chaos and confusion. This isn’t happening in Tennessee or Georgia. It’s happening in our backyard.
“In schools, educators model the behavior that we expect our students to emulate. This blatant attempt to nullify the election is not something that we’d tolerate from kindergartners,” said Marcia C. St. John-Cunning, Franconia School Board – Elect.
