Great job by both Representatives Don Beyer (D-VA08) and Gerry Connolly (D-VA11) today on the US House floor, as debate proceeds on supplemental aid packages for Ukraine – by FAR the most important, urgent one – and for our other allies (Taiwan, Israel) as well humanitarian assistance to Gaza, Sudan, Haiti, etc. According to Rep. Beyer:

“Today moral courage and sound strategic thinking finally defeat the partisan cynicism and political calculation of a small minority of this body who hold our national interest hostage. Some of my colleagues say America should hide from our role as the world’s dominant power, ignoring our geopolitical foes as they move aggressively against our interests and menace our allies. They are wrong.”

And according to Rep. Connolly:

“…the Ukrainian-Russian border is OUR border. It’s the the border between depraved autocracy and freedom-loving people seeking our democratic way of life. Do we have a stake in that outcome? Yes. Undeniably yes. Will we rise to the occasion? Will we stand shoulder to shoulder with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, who for 1,151 days have been holding off the depraved, thuggish dictator, Vladimir Putin, who has respected no norms of warfare?…We must meet this test today. We must stand with Ukraine. Slava Ukraini!”
