Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger Endorse Delegate Kannan Srinivasan in the Senate District 32 Special Election

Srinivasan also has been endorsed by VA House Speaker Don Scott, VA Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell "and the majority of Loudoun County Democratic leaders"

Big endorsements for Del. Kannan Srinivasan’s campaign for the State Senate seat being vacated by Suhas Subramanyam (who was just elected to Congress in VA10). These latest endorsements come on top of the recent ones by VA House Speaker Don Scott and VA Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell, as well as Loudoun County Chair Phyllis Randall, State Senator Russet Perry, Supervisors Michael Turner, Kristen Umstattd and Laura TeKrony, School Board Chair Melinda Mansfield, “the majority of Loudoun County Democratic leaders,” etc. Why are all these heavy hitters rallying behind Del. Kannan Srinivasan?  Two reasons, from what I hear: 1) because they like Srinivasan and think he’s the most electable; 2) because they are worried that former Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj could lose the seat (which is crucial, of course, given that the State Senate is now only 21-19 Democratic, so if this seat were lost, it would be 20-20, with LG Winsome Sears breaking tie votes – ugh!). My understanding, by the way, is that a “firehouse caucus” (without “Ranked Choice Voting”) will be held to select the Democratic nominee for this seat on November 16 – just 8 days from now – in 5 locations. Stay tuned. Also note that other candidates (besides Kannan Srinivasan and Buta Biberaj) are Sree NagiReddi, Puja Khanna, Hurunnessa Fariad and Ibraheem Samirah.

Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger Endorse Delegate Kannan Srinivasan in the Senate District 32 Special Election

Ashburn, VA – Today, Delegate Kannan Srinivasan announced the support of Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger for the Democratic nomination to fill Suhas’ District 32 State Senate seat.

This announcement follows notable endorsements from House Speaker Don Scott and Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell and the majority of Loudoun County Democratic leaders. With Loudoun County swinging 9 points to the right during the Presidential election, community and statewide leaders are backing Kannan as they recognize he is the best candidate to win this district and protect our razor-thin one seat Senate Democratic majority. Kannan won his past two elections with over 60% of the vote and will ensure the Senate remains a firewall against MAGA extremism.

“Kannan Srinivasan is our best candidate to win this State Senate seat, keep Democratic control of the Legislature, and continue to deliver on our Democratic values,” said Congressman-Elect Suhas Subramanyam. “I’m supporting Kannan Srinivasan for the Democratic nomination for our State Senate seat because he gives us our best chance to win this special election and keep Democratic control of the Legislature. I’ve worked closely with Kannan and admire his passion to bring people together, solve problems, and get big things done. In the Legislature, he worked to protect reproductive rights, advance gun safety, create jobs, and defend our democracy. Please join me in voting for Kannan for the Democratic nomination so we continue having effective leadership that delivers for Loudoun families.”

“Over the next few years, I look forward to getting things done in Richmond for hardworking Virginia families. That’s why I’m supporting Kannan to serve in the Virginia Senate,” said Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger. “Kannan’s demonstrated record of success — in business and in public service — makes him the right candidate to deliver results for his community. With his help, we will make sure our Commonwealth is a place where all Virginians have access to the opportunities they need to build a stronger future.”

Delegate Kannan Srinivasan, a 25 year Loudoun resident and the first Indian American immigrant to serve in the House of Delegates, represents House District 26. As Delegate, Kannan championed women’s reproductive rights, voting rights, healthcare, and gun violence prevention. He’s now running for Virginia’s 32nd Senate District to ensure Democrats retain their single seat majority and act as a brick wall against the resurgence of Trump-era extremism.
