From the Democratic Party of Virginia:

DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker’s Statement on 2024 Election Results

From the outset of this cycle, we set a bold goal in Virginia: to build our earliest-ever Coordinated Campaign. In just a few months, we opened 25 offices across the Commonwealth, recruited over 25,000 volunteers, hired 150 staff members, and knocked on more than a million doors. Donald Trump gained much less ground in Virginia than in most other blue states, including New Jersey, where Trump gained 10.9%, Connecticut (8.9%), New York (10.6%), and Maryland (10.3%). That is a testament to our robust ground game, which ultimately earned Kamala Harris the trust and support of Virginians, and we are proud to have delivered our 13 electoral votes to her. The national outcome was, of course, not what we had hoped for. In a short time, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ran a campaign that showcased both a pragmatic vision for improving the lives of hard-working Americans and an unwavering commitment to the values we hold dear as a nation. In her concession speech, Kamala Harris made it clear: the fight for freedom and opportunity will continue.

We want to congratulate our Democratic candidates who triumphed across Virginia. There’s no one better equipped than Senator Tim Kaine to continue serving Virginians in the Senate and uniting our Commonwealth and nation. Eugene Vindman’s success in the Seventh District reflects his strong message to protect democracy and freedoms. We also thank Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger for her leadership in paving the way for leaders like Eugene. Suhas Subramanyam’s victory in the Tenth District highlights his commitment to a better future, and we thank Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton for her exemplary record of service and her steadfast commitment to the district. We also want to congratulate Bobby Scott (VA-03), Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Don Beyer (VA-08), and Gerry Connolly (VA-11) for their victories and continued leadership.

We commend Leslie Mehta, Missy Cotter-Smasal, Gloria Witt, Ken Mitchell, and Karen Baker, all of whom ran campaigns that elevated important issues and brought new voices and perspectives into the conversation.

In the days ahead, we hope President-elect Donald Trump will rise to the occasion of uniting our country and work to bring all Americans together.
